Can anyone give me any advice as to what is the best background on which to photograph wooden pens.

Avoid black, white red and blues, netrals work best.
If I feel that "props" distract.
Show me the pen, the whole pen and nothing but the pen.
If I want to see an "Artsy" picture I will go to a gallery and see it in person.
