crybaby.gif I write this brief ,sniff, message to tell you all that I dropped my beautiful Custom 823. It fell two full flights of stairs. The tip of the pencap broke off. I will be holding a service in my office and a viewing from 1 to 3pm today. Cus' as I liked to call him is survived by a Fine, Medium, and broad 78G and a Pilot Knight.

Seriously, any wants it make me an offer if you have a spare cap or have any ideas with this medium tipped legend. I cant afford to replace Cus.

That bites.... Big time... Its hard when stuff like that happens.

You might consider having someone like Brian Gray (the penmaker ) quote on making a new cap for you. It won't match but it would at least work.

Thank you for the suggestion. If you have Brian's contact info, please post it here or PM me.

Thanks again,

It definitely seems like you could find a replacement cap somehow.

Alternatively, find a base that will work and make this a desk pen. I've converted an Esterbrook base to base for a non-Estie and you might be able to do the same.

Have you considered contacting Pilot for a replacement cap?

Yeah, you never know, they might take pity and just send you one. These weird things called customer service and satisfaction do pop their heads up once in a while.

First - ACK!

Second - What a good idea, to turn it into a desk pen! (As a last resort.)

Third - I seem to remember ordering pen parts... maybe a barrel. Or maybe it was just the nibs. But I would definitely call the manufacturer.

Fourth - Post in the Marketplace forum. Maybe someone has a part (I have the nib/nib feed section and the cap of a Parker sterling (what's that grid pattern called?), cos the barrel came loose and fell off somewhere in Pennsylvania. Maybe I'll look for a replacement barrel... or maybe I'll be able to come to someone's rescue with the nib and cap, who know?!).

Fifth - ACK! You have my sympathy!
Lloyd
I apologize if this post sends as a quadruple.

There are other Pilot/Namiki caps that will (probably) work, too. For instance, the Custom 742 and Custom 743. To call Jeanette at Pilot USA: 1-203-381-4770. She has been very nice to deal with for me.

HOLY CHRYSANTHEMUMS - IT ONLY SENT ONE POST!!!!

Chiming in with my deepest sympathies, and seconding everyone's good ideas.

Wow. That's one thing I truly love about FPN.

Just think, Steadyhand, at least the cap was on. I'm sure it will be easier to get a replacement cap, even if it's not a perfect match, than to replace a nib that bounced down two flights of stairs!

The Custom 743 cap will most likely fit on the 823 since both pens use a #15 nib. But I'm not too sure about the 742 though, since the 742 uses a #10 nib along with a shorter cap.

This is an excellent idea and if all else fails I will reach out to the FPN'rs for instruction.

After I read your post, I submitted an email at the Pilot website. Thank you. Well see.

Thank you, thank you, Lloyd I called Jeannette and left her a message.

Your absolutely right on all accounts. I dont care if she has an amber cap. I will take it. Thank you all for your support in my time of grief. It makes not having my "Cus" in my breast pocket a little bit more...liveable.
Just a little bit though. I will freak out like a nun in a men's bathroom.

I spoke with Jeannette. My situation isn't impossible, but certainly bleek. She doesn't have the part and it would have to go to Asia to be repaired. She doesn't know how much it will cost wallbash.gif and it will take a minimum of 6 to 8 weeks yikes.gif .

I'm crybaby.gif alright. Don't worry about me.
This is sad.

If anyone is willing to trade...you see what pens I own, below-Except the Ventidue. I will take an amber or black fine point.

Hi,

Pilot USA has good customer service; I'd definitely try them if I were you. I've heard good stories of them repairing the non-US distributed pens.

I emailed the sight this morning-it was forwarded back to the states. Jeannette knew who I was when I called. That to me was impressive. Does anyone know of anyone that had a similiar situation? I want to know the cost involved. Thanks.

You know... 6-8 weeks to get a replacement part for a $300 pen isn't the worst thing I've ever heard. I had a piston fill Omas with a leaky nib section that had to be sent to Italy that took at least that long to get back. Hopefully, Jeanette will be able to find out the exact price, and that it won't be too expensive.
SteadyHand
Hi everyone,

First thank you again for your support. I have decided to send it for repair. If takes 2 to 3 months doesnt matter. I sent away my Ventidue for a similiar repair and I have to say that absence makes the heart grow fonder. I have the same expectations for the 823. I will post updates as they occur. I may take this opportunity to swap the medium nib for a fine.

Again thank you,

David

Hi,

The cost is generally trivial, knowing Pilot.

My Omas repair on the other hand, about 3 years ago wasn't so nice, it took 4-5 months to get the pens back. I sent 2 pens, one after the other. But at least I have both pens with me now.

Please let us know how it works out. By the way, you may want to change your name from SteadyHand to SlipperyPocket.

I have never dealt with Pilot before on a warranty issue, but as an 823 owner, I do sympathize. crybaby.gif

I hope you get this resolved in a timely and not-too-expensive manner. Pilot should really not charge you anything more than shipping. I know for a fact Sailor replaces parts for free at cost of shipping only.

Best,
Summer Greer

So what's the latest update to this? Any news yet, Slippery...I mean SteadyHands.
