Full Version: PElikan M200 bug

I think i have gotten the M200 bug is a bad way.

I first started with Pelikan M400s and higher and never paid attention to the humble M200 but after buying the blue demonstrator a month and a half ago i have come down with a serious case of M200 addiction. How bad? Well today i called Pam Braun to buy another M200. When she asked me to pick the color and started to mention how beautiful the blue marble and green marble are, i just said..."add them both!!."

Had she kept me on the phone another minute i would have also asked for the black M200. Maybe i should give her a call tomorrow eureka.gif .

My shopping list for the South Florida show has gone from Vintage Vaccumatics, "51's", M625, etc into gathering all the M200 demonstrator colors, several old cap M200s and other discontinued M200 colors/models. I think i finally found my focus within the Pelikan family and my holly grail. Every user or collector has theirs, for some is a new Sheaffer, another Vintage "51"s, for me, it looks like the M200 might be it.

I am not surprised you like the M200, I love the one I have, I have it black with a fine nib. The filling system is fine, has a large ink capacity, the nib becomes super smooth after a while of use, the ink window is perfect, it looks conservatively and quietly classy, as well as timeless, it does not cost that much, is a good size, what more could you want? I don't know what people think, maybe I am wrong but is the M200 an understated pen? For what it is I don't think it is mentioned all that much...

Perhaps the best deal going in a fine fountain pen, imho. Thought it's a tad too small for my hands.

I think Lozzic said it all! I couldn't have phrased it better myself

I am a huge fan of Pelikan Pens and currently own 2 200s, 1 400 and an M 1000. However, I have been experiencing a funny problem with my 200s. A couple of months ago I inked one of my 200s and carried it to work housing it in the breast pocket of my white shirt(I am a lawyer). Sometime during the day, the cap of the pen came off and the inked pen wrecked havoc on my shirt. Unfortunately, I was using Cross Black ink in my pen and as it turns out, the ink is virtually impossible to get off your clothes.

Thinking that I must have been careless and might have forgotten to cap the pen properly, I took the same pen to work the next day. The result: 2 unusable white shirts and an angry mom headsmack.gif

Since that day I have stopped carrying my Pelikans to work. Since the cap of the 200 twists only once before it comes off, I can't trust carrying the pen without a carry pouch.

Any suggestions on how I can make my pens 'work worthy'?

My M200 twists about 410o before coming off. Come to think of it that is one downside of the 200, its cap is loose and can move side to side even. I have not had any problems though, I just twist it on enough that I feel it tighten at the end, I know then it wont come off at all; I take care not to twist too much though.

I've had that problem with Esterbrook Js with worn threads, but not with the Pelikan. But I guess it can happen to any pen where the threads have worn from use a bit and no longer "lock..."

I'd suggest a carry pouch/pen case...or get a new cap from Chartpak service?

I just bought an M200 Citroerpern with the matching book. Only 1,200 were ever made. I will take pics as soon as it arrives. i wanted the pn but somehow couldn't resist the chance of owning the matching book that inspired the pen.

I figured it was a must if i am ever going to own/use/collect all the variants of the M200 line. Am going to have to use it sparingly and with care given the limited quantity that were produced.
Have Fun
I am hoping that one M200 will satisfy my curiosity once & for all.. I really can't justify having any more pens, but my curiosity is simply nagging to try other pens in my hand. It is a temptation I have to resist.

The nearest pen stockist to me with anything of interest is 50 miles away .. eventually I will have to make a trip to see what they have to offer, but I will leave all credit cards at home.

Talking about your loose lid there is a topic on this forum now that may be of interest, http://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/in...showtopic=43531 I don't know if it would work.

I really like the M205 I have, and I'm definitely getting at least one or two M200s. (And another M205. blush.gif )They write well, they are the perfect size and weight for me, and they're so reasonably priced that I can take one everywhere without worrying about it. And there's the added bonus that they're piston-fills! cloud9.gif

Can't see the lovely grey marble here but the second-to-last pic on this page is one of my favorite m200 patterns. I saw a bp/fp (and mp?) set once - wish like heck I'd bought it then.

A Tortoise M250 would be a good addition if you can find one, didn't know they existed until Martin (twdpens) mentioned that he had one.

These still crop up from time to time on ebay, if you keep an eye open.
