I picked up an Onoto "new series" fp and mp boxed set from the bay, after hearing all the great things about the Onoto pens thought i got it for a snip at around the £25 mark. Well they are about as good as the rubbish Conway Stewart 106 was. Talk about lightweight cheapie plastic. The set is black and looks unused visulated section is clean as a whistle anyway. The nib, however, looks a beauty, could be stub or broad. Similar filling system to pelikan. I'll give it a go but i don't like the cheap feel unsure.gif Why do these major pen producers risk their good reputations putting out such rubbish. angry.gif

I've never heard of this pen, and can't find it on google. Can you post some pictures? It sounds interesting, if it has a piston filler.

Hi Mark,

The body plastic on this pen is pretty bad but the nib is as good as any other Onoto nib,

The New Series was just about the last gasp of the orignal Onoto brand and date from about 1953 ish on until the end which I believe was some time about 1956 when De la Rue stopped making pens completely although the pens were available for some years afterwards as NOS items in many good stationers.

The caps like those on the more or less contemporary basic hooded nib K series pens tend to suffer from logitudinal cracks oddly enough about halfway up the cap, the New Series seem to be even worse though, the good thing is that the cracks ar repairable with easily obtainable glues and solvents. The bodies seem much less prone to cracking so if you can find a version with a gold filled cap the K series at least makes a very good pen for every day use being as near to a piston filled 51 as you will find.

Cheers, John
