Full Version: Safe Permanent Inks?
The Fountain Pen Network > General Pen Topics > Inky Thoughts
Ron C
Hi Fellow Forum Members,
I've been using washable inks. Today I splashed a little water on the page I was writing on, and I decided that maybe I should try some permanent inks. I've read that permanent inks (except india inks and the like) are safe for fountain pens and are only "permanent" when in contact with cellulose (paper). However, there is that nagging concern that some permanent inks may either stain or clog my pens!
I'd appreciate any and all opinions/advice as to permanent inks that are very safe for pens (ie. that won't clog or stain the pens) and that have good flow and lubricity.
I like blues and blacks primarily.
Thanks,
Ron C.

Dear Ron,
permanent ink is not exactly a waterproof ink.I guess you'd like to know about waterproof ink for fountain pens....I've used Montblanc Blue Black,Register Ink by Diamine and waterproof Noodler's,all of them work fine.
Good luck,
René.

Noodler's Bulletproof and near bulletproof (Noodler's nomenclature!) will be waterproof or nearly waterproof, and with some exceptions, easy to use. You have the choice of black, red, green, brown, blue-black, and indigo in bulletproof, and several colors that are very water resistant (Standard Brown and Walnut), and other that have a black waterproof component that will not wash away (Aircorp BB, Blue-black, Navy, Zhivago, Red Black, Green Marine, Golden Brown, etc).

I have a Parker 61 filled with Noodler's Walnut, a Hero 330 filled with FPN Gallelio Manuscript Brown, and a Parker "51" filled with Noodler's Black. All work prefectly, no clogging, no stains, no troubles. I've used the Black in a Sheaffer Snorkel Statesman for almost six months and never did anything but fill it when it ran dry, only changed because I wanted to use some other pens. I'll probably switch back to another Sheaffer for the black soon, when the "51" goes dry.

There are other choices, but I like these the best. That Noodler's black is just almost totatly resistant to water, and in fact I use it to write on wet paper labels at work -- once it's in contact with the paper, the ink is waterproof and doesn't smear or run, even when the label is completely watersoaked.
