Send2Pong listed more items, now all with "Buy it now" price.
BTW, he received lots of positive feedback (all get on buying 0.01 items

), and seller feedback shows one more possible scammer:
annakun2112.

Definitely bears keeping an eye on this "new" seller ... all of his purchases to date have come from sakura_9999.
thanks for the "heads-up!

Hi Everyone. Well I hope no one gets ripped off and I to have wondered about Sakura_99999. He is certainly a shill bidder for these Thai sellers who are all the same group of people with the real Artit the most well known and part of the group. I did what I could while in Bangkok and mostly kept them off eBay but now I'm leaving so they are going to go all out. So it's very simple: Do not buy from any Thai seller who doesn't have very, very high feedback. I mean like 500+! Even Puget2005 who I know is not part of this group has some negative comments here. Don't give up on overseas sellers, there are great deals, but let someone else take the chance until the dealer is very well established.
Thanks for all the great things you said about me here. I'll be back when I get set up in Virginia! Thanks, BOB

Bob,
I would like to thank you for doing your best to ward off scammers during your time in Thailand. But would you in some sort of danger when these scammers know you are working against them?
Take care,

Just an update, Send2pong is no longer a registered member, and I received a message from eBay's Loss Prevention Department telling me not to pay for the item I bid on, although this message came too late.

Jim,
You mean Send2pong won your friend's auction? Has Send2pong paid for your friend's item? If so, why shouldn't your friend shipped the item?

Hey PD -
I do not have all the details - send2pong won the auction on Saturday ... one generally doesn't ship over the weekend ... again, I have to assume that Paypal was involved
since send2pong is in Bangkok and the pens are here in the US ... no paper payment could get here that fast .. a Scammer isn't going to use overnight courier ... LOL
What I do know is that apparently the seller had been alerted to a problem with the transaction ... either by eBay ... or Paypal ... whoops ... just got an email from my friend
who says that eBay sent her notice there was a problem ... she further informed me that our "friend" send2pong wanted her to ship after receiving ONLY A PARTIAL
PAYMENT - I mean ...What's
UP with THAT??
As to your query about my friend shipping upon receiving payment ... I would say that one should make every reasonable attempt to ship as expeditiously as possible upon
receiving a CONFIRMED payment ... however there are mitigating circumstances in this instance .. I wouldn't be surprised if the payment has/will be reversed ...
kindly remember that we aren't dealing with reputable people here ... otherwise you, I , and others wouldn't have suffered the losses we have in dealing with them

Jim,
Thanks for letting me know. I hope you don't take any offense on my earlier questions. The reason that I was asking those questions is because I am trying to understand Send2pong's intention. It seems very clearly Send2pong is trying to cheat your friend by asking her to ship the pen with a partial payment made upfront first, and then refusing to pay the remaining amount after receiving the pen.
thanks,
purpledog

I have never felt threatened here in Thailand. This is a very, very safe place overall. I also have been doing it quitely and via eBay and helping other people report them. I've tried to not look like a open threat to them. I also have very good relations with a few trusted dealers here who let me know what's going on. These guys also all know I work for the US Government and I made them think I'm is some kind security or something. So they have just waited it out until I leave. Cheers, BOB

And now there is Annakun2112 from Thailand selling the most beautiful fountain pens. Is this another alias for The Pen Scammer?
purpledog
May 16 2008, 09:31 PM
I believe Annakun2112, Sakura_9999 are all part of a group of colluding eBayers (or just one- or two-man operation), who work with one another on shill bidding. Some of the new registered member IDs are created to cheat buyers, like Send2pong, who do not ship after the items are paid for, and their eBay accounts are usually de-registered just after a few weeks.

Hello all!
If a moderator is reading this: am I allowed to post a link to the IC3 division of the justice department so that fellow members who've been taken/cheated/bamboozled

Hope I got the link in right. THis seller, msa63, is in Malaysia, which is certainly not Thailand. Feedback looks good - a wide variety of buyers - but the number is low. Does anyone know if this seller is legit?

I think I'll bid on a bunch of his stuff. I won't bid to high so I don't pay more than I want, but if/when I get some I'll insist he deliver to me in bangkok. That way I can see who he is for sure. But I'm sure like in the past he'll not contact me. Should be fun. Cheers, BOB

Received the pen only to discover the section is new but the pen is definitely used, and what appeared as spots of dirt was actually wear through to the brass on the gold plating! Further investigation revealed ink inside the section and a couple of pretty deep scratches.
Was the pen you got authentic and not the fake one?

I may not know much about the seller, but my past experience will tell me to be extra careful dealing with sellers registered in Thailand. Furthermore, he has got low feedback. I was lucky last time to get full refund. If I were you, I would just keep away from the seller.

Hi all! Once again, I think that we need to exercise great caution when dealing with Thai-based sellers on eBay and Thai sellers purportedly operating within the continental US.
If you examine berdeenq's feedback ... something doesn't look right ... he/she has 6 transactions with eBay user id asukchai9 (also based in Bangkok) dated June 3rd ... asukchai9 was
the buyer in all 6.
On June 4th 3 identical feedbacks are posted for berdeenq lauding him/her as a good seller et al. The 3 feedbacks posted by asukchai9 on June 6th all thank berdeenq for the business ... as if
asukchai9 were the seller ??
Maybe it's just me and/or cultural/language differences ... but it does seem very odd. Also, if both seller and buyer are in the same city ... and assuming that real transactions took place with
funds/pens exchanged ... shouldn't berdeenq have posted feedback for asukchai9 ... whom as of this posting has 0 feedback?
Very strange ...

Jim

I think that this thread has just saved me some money..! I was going to try to buy a pen from this seller on ebay:
http://myworld.ebay.co.uk/kanapatss/ Having read this thread though it all looks too dodgy. He only has 7 positive feedback, all from buying not selling, and all of a sudden is selling twenty or thirty fountain pens whe he has not sold anything before. On top of that he has only been an ebay member for a few weeks, based in Thailand, and his auctions state 'local bidders must contact me first to arrange payment and shipping before bidding'. Why? Unless he's worried that he may actually have to hand over the pen to a local bidder who is not so easy to swindle...
Thanks everyone!
Mr B.
