I am ordering a Parker 51 fantasy clear demonstrator from Ariel Kullock
I have read of stains on clear demonstartor pens. I beleive it is reputed that purple and red stain. Are all other colors safe?
I do not want to add a color that will damage the pen. Can anyone tell me what has stained their pens and what colrs have not and are safe. I suppose Noodler's Burgundy and Cayenne and Tianamen red are out???

Yes, be very careful of inks that contain red dyes. This includes purples and pinks as well as inks like Noodlers Red Black. Doing some homework here on FPN is probably a good idea. It's been discussed in other threads that Noodlers Bay State Blue can stain certain plastics.

I haven't had any trouble with Noodlers Burgundy. The ink that stains the worst in my experience is Sheaffer Skrip Violet/purple.

i am a vintage pen user. you cannot use heavily satuarated inks. stick with watermans, parker, sheaffer--blues, blacks and greens. red, pink and violets-purples will stain. i do not use any of the new inks in my pens.

I got my Pilot Custom 823 for the express purpose of filling it w/ purple ink (settled on Waterman's). After about a month of it in there, I flushed it out, and the clear barrel wasn't stained. So far, so good. But, I anticipate this pen only ever having some shade of purple in it.

Would Copper Burst from Private Reserve cause a stain you think? I plan to use it with my new Omas 360 Bronze but have to wait for both ink & pen to arrive first

Interesting pen. I've been considering the same Parker demo from Ariel.
My experience echos the comments above. Stick with blues, blacks, etc. to maintain a stain free demo. I have a bottle of Copper Burst but only use it in a couple free flowing pens.

So if I am limited to blues and blacks, that means the pen will always be blue or black. Perhaps I should not bother with the clear demonstrator? Aiel Kullock has a lovely fullpearl burgundy Parker 51.....

I do the same with my vintage pens.
But there are nice, inexpensive pens like a Lamy Safari or Pelikano that can be filled with any other ink you may like.
And a Lamy vista is a demonstrator, too

Actually, apart from the usual red/violet warning I'd also not use Noodlers 'bulletproofs' in demonstrators, as Hunter Green and Black (even more) have left a thin coat of particles in the section of one of my demonstrators (Waterman Kultur). However, I'm quite sure you could simply wipe this off if you were able to disassemble the feed/section (which I am not). I'd also not use the Platinum green from their cartridges because it stains clear plastic (very slightly).

PS.: I haven't tried it out yet but I was told by several members that Herbin's Poussiere de Lune was a 'purple' ink that didn't stain pens.

I use a 50/50 mix of Noodlers Navajo Turquoise and Waterman South Seas Blue.... an absolutely fantastic turquoise blue with no green and it looks fantastic in my Kullock...
Also does not stain and my pen writes about 6-7/10 and the ink dries quick.

Hi,
Some inks like PR Tanzanite and the Noodler's permanents are inks that I would avoid. Inks like Pelikan red and violet should be used with care, but the violet seems to stain a lot less than the red and seems to wash out completely. Aurora black is also good, but I would avoid Parker Quink black and a number of other blacks out there because they stain urethane seals pink or yellow. Most Pelikan inks give very little problems, same with Omas, but I'd personally stay away from Omas violet and blue because of staining issues.
Some inks contain dye that seems to be not exactly water soluble and end up sticking to the surfaces that they are allowed to settle on.
In many pens, the material (PMMA) does not stain easily, but others like Omas cotton resin stain readily if you are not careful

While I appreciate all the advice I am now getting confused. Dillo
can you tell me what is safe? How are Sailor Inks for staining. I'd like to hear fomr someone who owns a parker 51 fantasy and know what inks they have used safely

Hi,
For Sailor, I'd stick with the Green, Brown, and Yellow-orange. I've had problems with the blue and blue-black.
For my "51" fantasy, I used Pelikan blue and that was it, because I didn't really like the pen all that much. For the material they use in general, I'd definitely recommend staying away from Noodler's or Private Reserve, since those seem to stain.

Oh dear,
I just bought a Lamy Vista and filled it with Noodler's Dragon Napalm! How resistant to staining are the Vistas? I use Noodler's Le Couleur Royale frequently, and it would be a shame if that stained!
Thanks!
