Full Version: Blue Pelikano Loves Baystate Blue

This is now my "go to pen and ink." Using Pelikan converter filled with Baystate Blue, with medium nib, it worked flawlessly over the course of 7-10 days. I then intentionally left it sitting unused for 9 days...fully expecting I would need to prime it. Uncapped, made a couple skipping strokes, and then....bada bing.....right back to flowing perfectly. Now have a stock of 6 bottles of BSB...all from the great Swisher Pens who so effortlessly resolved my Yellow Lamy debacle. I think I have since ordered 7 pens and a dozen bottles of ink from them....so they have now also become my "go to pen store."

Very good idea, I'll try the ink in my Pelikano! I don't have a blue one, but orange will work.

Orange pen +blue ink. My University-of-Florida-graduate dad would love you, I'm sure.

We Florida State people, on the other hand, are waiting to use our garnet pens with a viable gold FP ink. thumbup.gif

I have my orange VP filled with BSB smile.gif It's been about two weeks, behaved well on trans-pacific flight, traveling along with me in my purse.

FYI
Baystate should not be mixed with other inks, however - we've decided that a few should be available that can be mixed with it. They will all share the "Baystate" artwork and are classed as an ink family the following way: "1946 compatible". Any Noodler's Ink that states "1946 compatible" on the label will be fully mixable with Baystate Blue and any other ink that states the same. The colors are very intense and a joy to write with - and have had positive reviews in testing. They are still radical inks - not your usual fountain pen inks....so, please keep this in mind when using them. They really do NOT like being mixed outside their family - and it is wise to rinse out a pen that had a different ink in it before filling with a 1946 style ink. They are also the first inks to have very divergent properties and reflections of light - some even have "migratory" pH (the pH of the ink changes depending upon the paper one uses and even due to different temperature exposures - you can see this with certain thermal papers and chemically treated papers). That is why Baystate Blue has a range for its pH. Baystate Blue is waterproof on all but the most coated papers (those with wax and oil content in particular) and the other "1946 compatible" inks vary in their properties....but the distinction is made only based upon their ability to be mixed with each other - not based upon properties.

I've dedicated a Pelikan 200 to BSB and haven't had a single problem with it. Its now always filled and waiting for me to use it. Guess I'm going to need to stock up on some more BSB.

Yay! Fun will commence! (Apologies to Seven of Nine)

Hi Nathan,

WONDERFUL NEWS!!! What colors are they? Any idea when we can see color samples and expect our usual suppliers to have them in stock? My daily carry pen is a black crosshatch Pilot Elite with Baystate Blue. Can't wait for some more great inks.

THANKS,
Michael

It is just listed as a Pelikan converter at Swishers

I have some Levenger-sourced international converters that work okay with Pelikanos. The Pelikano has some plastic elements that give the converter a tiny turn, but I have not had a problem with ink escaping due to the small amount the piston moves.

I'm really excited to have some additional Baystate-like inks coming.

I actually just stumbled on this thread because I was searching for a Baystate thread so I could report that the remnants of ink in a pen I washed out stained my porcelain sink a pale violet color this evening. As suggested, I grabbed a little bleach. It was amazing to me how quickly the stain vanished. For most of it, pouring a bit of bleach took care of it. The remnants disappeared with the slightest bit of rubbing. I hope the new inks share this easy bleach cleanup attribute.

Two things, if Vim is available at your local super market, it works wonders with ink stains on porcolain (finished) sinks including BSB.

I have three pens inked up with Baystate Blue, two Aerometric Parker 51's one a fine-medium and another a formerly dry writing fine and a Marlen Siholette(sp?) with a fine nib they still work great.

I am running BSB in a Blue EF Safari, and a F Pilot. They've been there for about a month and had several fills. They also behaved beautifully in flight.

Other blues look quite dull by comparison - except for Visconti, which is really a quite different blue altogether. I really like BSB, and look forward to meeting more of the family.

I'm so glad you found your BSB combo, Sam. Good choice!

More "1946" inks? Yay! A dark, vivid orange? A cool, iridescent purple? Apache Sunrise? Heartless Mayan Blue? That would be a cool one!

You can have little idea how glad I am to hear that piece of news!

IANAN places BSB-loaded VP back on the list of things to take on sunny jolly hols...

I had a yellow stypen pen which I filled with Bay state Blue which is a beautiful color. The pen is now stained yellow from trying to fill it and the Amodex really did not get it off but the real l frustration is that the ink never seems to flow to the nib and so after the mess the pen still does not write. Any ideas?

The first two were also on my mind! The last two sound good as well.

Personally, I'm waiting for "Sear Your Retnas Red". thumbup.gif

Although yeah, Heartless Mayan Blue would also be pretty nifty.

That was the first thing that popped into my head!

I'm not a huge purple fan, but even I might like what could be created from a "1946" red with the BSB!
Samovar
Done! I bought a blue Pelikano and left the orange one alone. It's a really nice match.
I'll use the Baystate in this pen in the future.

Samovar
I would like to add that I previously filled a Lamy Safari with Baystate and just cleaned it, the converter is stained and the ink seems to cling to porcelain on my sink.

It's a strange ink! But I simply love it.

I would not put this ink in my Pelikan demonstrator!
