Full Version: best place to purchase nibs for a Pelikan M200?

I have a new Pelikan M200 with a M nib, and I'm looking for a F or EF nib.

This is a new pen, so I might be willing to trade as well, as the pen is uninked.

I really want a EF nib, but I understand they can be scratchy. Is this true in all cases, and if so why??

Where is a good place to buy a new nib section? Can you maybe give me any advice, based on your use of said nibs??

I have a Lamy Al-Star EF nib. Do you suppose a Pelikan EF writes in a similar manner? I also have a Prera, with a F nib thats quite needle like, compared to my Al-Star.

Thank you

I've been very satisfied with Richard Binder's sales & service. (No affiliation.)

OK gold plated or not, then?? Im speaking of the 215 nib that will fit, i guess...

any difference as to writability??

also, does he modify the F nib at all before shipping? Does he test the F nib as well, or only if you buy a pen from him?

As to EF nibs, can someone explain his philosophy about the Pelikan EF nibs, and why they dont meet his standard?

Sorry to ask...Im new to this stuff....

I echo the recommendation of Richard Binder. I have been very happy dealing with him and his staff. /Craig

A family friend uses a Pelikan M805 with an EF nib. He never had it adjusted and he's been using for at least 4 years. I've wrote with it briefly once and I thought it wrote fine. I really don't think that Pelikan EF nibs are as bad as people make them out to be, but this is just my limited experience.

I think that Mr. Binder's plated nibs are very nice, and it's probably not worth the $100 to get a solid gold nib for an M200.

If you're really interested in XF nibs in general you might want to save your shekels and try one of the Hero pens (maybe from hisnibs.com, no affiliation). Most of them write a very fine line indeed, and they're very inexpensive. You could get a selection of them for the price of a custom XF m200 nib.

I just received a M200 with a F nib this week from isellpens, and I love it. It's quickly becoming my favorite pen! Todd had the pen to me in 3 days, so the service was great, and the F nib is great for my handwriting.

The regular Pelikan F nib is very good and plenty fine for me. Mine is good without any Binder work at all...

i think that pelikan will exchange a new nib for a different size free of charge.

Chartpak will indeed. Nib for nib trades.

I am a big believer in testing the base product before running to customize. Because, love the nibmeisters and their skills, but they are - in the case of Pelikan nibs - about 3x the cost of a basic nib. So I say, sample the basic product first, because it can be pretty good.

You can always customize later...
