I'm getting ready to finally order my Nakaya. I'm going between the piccolo and portable writer cigar. My favorite pen that I use is a Pelikan 620 (600 series size). From people that own these pens, could you give me some opinions as to which of those two would be closest to that size.

Thanks!

I don't own any Nakayas, but from handling them I can tell you the Writer Cigar is definitely a big pen. 6 inches capped. If you want an M600 sized pen, I say go for the Piccolo Writer. It is slightly bigger than the non-clip version of the Piccolo and is comparable to the M600. (Also, you might want to post this in the Japanese pen forum for all the Nakaya-wise to see - particularly Laura/Pthalo.)

Note that Nakaya have recently changed the "Piccolo Writer" so that it is the same size as the "Piccolo Cigar". Not sure if you can still get the slightly larger size Piccolo Writer anymore.

I recently had a... er... significant... birthday, and as a present to myself (the battle cry of pen addicts everywhere), I bought myself a Nakaya Piccolo Writer (from John Mottishaw, who modified the nib to a wonderful cursive italic -- but I digress).

My main pen of late has been the Pelikan 800, though I am somewhat fond of a Lamy 2000 in my possession, and for years I have used and loved the Montblanc 149.

Where does the Nakaya stack up in this panoply?

It is a little shorter than the 800, but stouter. I enjoy this, and do not post. If I felt a need to post, rather than risk damaging the urushi finish, I would go to the next size up.

YMMV and all that.

One man's opiion.

P.S. -- I love my Nakaya!

P.P.S. -- Get the goldfish converter. Even though you can't see it when you are using the pen, you wll know it is there, and it will bring a smile to your face -- at least it does to mine.
