Ok...here's my situation with this pen. I'm freeing up money for the True Blue that I just purchased and for a Visconti Moonlight Voyager. I don't want to, but I may be selling this pen in the coming weeks (this is NOT a sale posting!).

Here's my problem: A set of modern Dinkies is the only other Conway Stewart that I own. I've seen some really conflicting stuff concerning pricing for these pens. If you guys could help me out on this I would really appreciate it. I have a number in mind, I'm just not sure if it's kosher or not.

Like I said, I'm only going to sell this if I really can't find any other way to pay for what's coming! Any input would be appreciated, either on this thread or in PM.

Thanks everyone!

Cory

btw...nib is BB with very slight right foot oblique with flex. (that's what makes it really hard to sell) wallbash.gif
Also, the white line on the cap in one pic is a hair!

Nice pen, cjabbott, but I'm not sure what you are asking. Are you asking for an idea on what price to set on selling it, if its worthwhile you'll flog it but otherwise ight as well hang on to it?

The 479 is a common model with chrome plated trim and not particularly sought after in the same way unusual materials for other Universals, Dandies and Dinkies are. Neither is it a prestige model that's large or has a Duro nib. Also the diamond washer clip shows it is not one of the very early fixed clip or early ball clip models.

Max price is therefore going to be limited regardless of condition. I would say maximum privately will be £40 - 50.

On the other hand, it looks to be in very good condition and, despite being black it is so for the right reason, its in black chased material. You say plastic, I have an old Onoto that is in chased plastic as opposed to the more common hard rubber. Are you sure yours isn't hard rubber? If so there are a number of enthusiasts for this material, me being one, which will elevate its value. Also, as you point out, the nib is unusual. I would, therefore, suggest you may be able to get the maximum price for it.

Of course you may find a willing couple of buyers on the dreaded who, between them, bump up the price. CSVPens.co.uk are selling coloured 479s for around £80, this BCHR example for more:

but then prices are always high there, as they are here: http://www.conwaystewartpens.co.uk/search.asp

Not sure if this helps!
