Hi Boogit,
This sounds like another of the CS made for retailer branded pens, based around the standard CS pens of the period like the 475, 356 or whatever, as you probably know they did them for retailers from Plymouth to Aberdeen and many fair sized towns in between the retailer could have them in most CS colours but the majority appear to be in BHR/CBHR but by no means all of them, I have seen blue marble etc. If you look for CS pens that look like yours but with CS numbering that will give you a clear Id for it.
If you were to look in a trade directory for South Shields for the period you would probably find a stationers or department store by the name of Alan's.
As far as I know there is no totally comprehensive list of all of the retailers for whom CS produced pens and examples appear from time to time from retailers that were not known to have had pens made for them, maybe only one batch of the smallest number available from CS might have been ordered.
Cheers, John

All I can add to the above is that you might be missing a letter or two. Hexam should of course be Hexham and I'm wondering whether blacett should actually be blackett as there is a Blackett Street in Newcastle. From that I wonder if Alans is actually Allans the stationers who I seem to remember did have pens made by CS.
Just something to think about.
Cheers

THANKS FOR THE HELP!!
I did get the imprint wrong. It is BLACKETT AND HEXHAM as suggested by the posters. .I WILL have a run at the trade directories and try GOOGLE.
I note that one c/s site spelled blackett without the "k" and i thought that was the correct imprint.

This is a wonderfully interesting thread, I'm pleased you're following it up, BOOGIT, let us know how you get on (any pics of the pen would be appreciated too).
Jumping on the bandwagon I have just won this WH Smith 'Seal':
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...N:IT&ih=002On our late hero's site these are listed as made by CS and I'm looking forward to seeing the pen (although it seems like the nib may not be CS) to see if it is.
If anyone knows anything more about the WH Smith pens I'd appreciate any info.
Keep up the good work BOOGIT!
Greg
