Hi Guys,

I have just joined this forum and loving it! Ive recently taken a great interest in vintage fountain pens particularly Conway Stewart. but im still learning so much!

I have just gotten a Conway Stewart 570 Dinkie its a green irridesent colour, its never been inked so in really good condition but it was my believe that these pens were lever fillers and this one is not it has the same filling mechanisim as a 106 think its call a pressac? the barrel reads Conway Stewart 570 Holder Foreign the nib reads conway 14k gold.

Can anyone tell me anything about this partivular pen and what it might be worth?

Im looking forward to reading the replies and contributing as I learn more!

Many thanks

Dave

Hi Dave, welcome to the forum. The green one I used to have was a lever filler, but as they're one of the later production pens then I guess it's perfectly feasible that they might have moved over onto the pressac filler midway through the production run for these pens.

I think the 570s are particularly pretty.

A blue one recently sold on eBay for over $200, but that kind of stunned everyone. I wanted the pen, but not that much. wink.gif

Hi,

Some of the later were pressac, although I don't think they appear that often. I have at least one, but also have a couple of spare barrels can't remember the colours offhand which are obviously not leverfill.

Difficult to say how much they are worth especially given the recent $200 sale, I think I paid less than £20 for the pressac one because it was unusual and probably less than £15 each for the Leverfill ones, also got a leverfill and a matching pencil with assorted spare barrels/caps (but unfortunately no spare nibs/feeds) for just over £20.

The 570s don't command as high prices as the older ones, but I'm quite fond of them mainly because I had a green set when I was at school.

Hey Guys,

Thanks for all your replys so far! it is quite a pretty pen but was unsure if it was a fake because I got it really cheap and had never seen one as a presac so im glad that its not and think it was a good buy especially because it has never been inked and still has a price of £1 on the box?

I must admit though I do prefer the older ones they seem a lot more sturdy and better made.

Cheers

As I understand it these were one of the last Dinkies sold by the original CS firm. The bodies were from a German source and the nibs from the CS factory. CS changed to the 'Pressac' filling method late in life and only their very last pens were so fitted. They work well and hold a decent amount of ink and sac replacement seems easy.

I would have thought their value to be less than the more traditional Dinkies in similar conidtion but it seems people find them attractive and are paying good prices. Each pen is worth what someone is willing to pay for it.

Find posts by andyr7 in this forum for some interesting info on Dinkies and some pics of fabulous pens.

The photos were superb, so even people like myself who didn't know about the model could see its charms. I really like the lines and the color is amazing.
