So I've finally decided it's time to take the Nakaya plunge and order my own pen. I know for sure I'll be doing the reddish black in some form of a no-clip model. Right now it's between a piccolo or a portable writer.

Currently my favorite pen (and has been since I received it maybe a year ago) is a Pelikan Grand Place. I'm looking for something in the same length. The girth of both the piccolo and writer seem to be fine for me so I'm not concerned about that. Also, I'm used to a medium width, so I'm wondering if a Japanese medium is the same as a western medium for Nakaya (I know some are not). I want to use it to write in a moleskine so I'm hoping its' fine enough to not bleed through.

Lastly, does anybody find the Zogan symbol to be useful other than a decoration? I'm also debating to go with the stone finish on the grip, but can't find pricing for that online.

Any help anybody can give me would be greatly appreciated!

Here is a link about their nibs. http://www.nakaya.org/epen.html#kindnib

I have a Nakaya Piccolo with a Fine nib and use it to write in a Moleskin dairy using Waterman Florida Blue. There is no real bleed through. As with most Japanese nibs it is a size smaller than Western. The chart on their page is an excellent guide.

I don't know if this helps, but once I made a writing sample with different inks and nibs. Ruud

I would say the Nakaya medium is closer to a western fine. The bleed through on a Moleskine notebook using a Nakaya medium nib isn't too bad. Also, when I ordered my Nakaya last summer, the Ishi-me Kan-shitsu grip (stone finish grip) option was an additional $80.
