I am not sure if there is a forum out there for this topic, but it is of high interest to me. As many of you know, there were seven celluloid colors that Omas used for their paragon pens.
Bronze Arco
Green Arco
Saffron Blue
Blue Royal
Saft Green
Scarlet
Pearl Grey
These would all be considered "old style." The Bronze Arco is the clear first pick from the list, but what would be your second pick? Are there any of these colors that should be bought first? In other words, which of these pens would cause a "run on the pen shop" if it was said that it was available?
Thanks for the feedback,
Cody

Yes indeed, the brown is THE classic Omas in my opinion too.Second place, for me,would be the green Arco followed by Scarlet.
I have the brown.Someday i will own the green.

Thank you so much for the quick reply. The green is also the one I am leaning to. I have also heard good things about the Saffron Blue one. Which is harder to find: the bronze arco or the green arco?

I would say the green is the more scarce of the two.And the saffron as well.

All of these pens are now scarce. If you're thinking of collecting, buy whichever one turns up for sale at a decent price. Don't wait for your favorite; you may be waiting a long time. If you have one, of any color, you are in a good position to trade for the one you really want.
I sure do wish that Omas had not stopped production of these pens.....

Actually, there were eight if one includes the wild celluoid on the Galileo Galilei LE (which is a Paragon).
Then, there were also the Extra Lucens in black and in blue which add another two versions.

Are you trying to ascertain whether one celluloid pattern is more valuable over another or just personal preferences? As to cost (versus value), the price each one commands speaks mostly to (1) scarcity and (2) desirability among buyers -- but often there's also bit of timing and luck involved.
As far as my personal favourites:
1. Bronze Arco*
2. Green Arco
3. Saffron Blue*
4. Scarlet
5. Blue Royale*
6. Saft Green
7. Pearl Grey*
*I have these already in my collection. With timing, luck, as well as all the help I can get from other collectors (special thanks to Wolfgang for those leads), I hope to find the rest soon enough.
By the way, these celluloids were not just on the Paragons. Omas also produced pens in the same celluloids (not all of them, just some) in the Dama and Princess pens as well. If you think finding a Paragon in these celluloids is difficult, try looking for them in the Dama size. The Dama pens would have been my first preference given it's my ideal pen size. They are so scarce that I opted for the Paragons. Go figure...

By far the easiest of these to find is the Blue Royale in HT trim; they appear regularly on the Bay for around $600. After that, there's a significant upswing in terms of scarcity. But if your interest lies more in a given material than in the Paragon itself, keep in mind that OMAS regulalrly resurrects these celluloids for LE's: for instance, in the past year alone, they've produced a Blue Royale LE for eBay seller outletline, a Saft Green LE for Fahrney's, and a Saffron Blue LE for Vecchietti.
As for my personal choice in colors, I'd have to go with the Saffron. But I'm told I can be a bit contrary at times :-) Best,
David
