I am out of touch with prices in the antique world, some help please.
A local antique shop is selling 6 Victorian round ink wells, made of glass, about 6 inches in diameter and 2.5 inches high with a brass or pewter lid. Not very practical for filling a big nib pen as they were designed before such things were thought of. Would look good on a Victorian desk though
They are being sold for £20-25 each, $45-50, which seems expensive to me.
I think you can do better on ebay. I have about 12 inkwells and have spent between $5.00 and $35.00 US each.

Nice desk! I think I've seen that double well style before - do you have any info on it by any chance?

I've seen this double inkwell on ebay more than once. I paid around $30 for it. The inkwells are thick glass and the lids are not attached (hinged).
Here's a similar one on Ebay:

Heh, I was watching that one already

I was just curious if anyone knew any general historical info.

RandyE, The inkwell I have has a sticker on the bottom that say "Handcrafted for Silvestri -- Made in Taiwan." That could mean it's a more recent reproduction.

You could definitely do better on ebay. You could also ask around in your family to see if anyone owns such a thing. As you can see from my avatar I rest my pens on an Eastlake inkwell/pen stand. I got it from my grandma. I've been looking for another one because I love antiques, especially Victorian. Good luck and show us pics when you do find something.
