Full Version: Townsend colors discontinued?
The Fountain Pen Network > Brand Focus > The Cross Forum

The Citrine and Garnet colors of the Townsend seem to be gone from the website. Have these colors been discontinued with the arrival of the new emerald and ruby colors?

I thought the Citrine and Garnet were very nice colors.

Cross appears to change its color and trim lines on a periodic basis. Lately they seem to be in their Silver & Rhodium phase. The only ones that seem to have permanent places in the line appear to be the gold filled and Sterling Silver.

The green lacquer is also gorgeous, and I think it was d'ced as well.
I put one on sale some time ago, but it's so nice looking, I might just keep it. happyberet.gif

Fahrneys (no affiliation) is selling the Citrine with a medium nib for $120. Pretty good deal.

I have been able to get these on ebay...

lopez1331

or

larryc3413

are two sellers who regularly have cross pens....Lopez is a little cheaper generally...but I have seen a number of this style pen in her sales...and have bought several as gifts. I had one pkg of pens go astray...she says she provides insurance but actually only provides delivery confirmation...but when the pkg went astray she totally replaced the items! The pkg showed up destroyed and taped together by the postal service about two months later, so I returned them as promised. Pretty great service I would say, other than her packaging is not always stellar and there are most often no gift boxes...great prices for everyday use pens!

I bought a garnet Townsend Selectip in a department store on Thursday, marked down to half price. Now I know why.
There was a fountain pen as well - maybe I should go back.

I recently purchased a Citrine fountain pen from Ebay seller larryc3413. Though described as having an 18k/rhodium plated nib, what I received had no hallmark at all. I am not familiar with Cross pens having unhallmarked gold nibs. Is the seller mistaken or am I misinformed?

Please help before I make an a*s of myself! Thanks.

If it doesn't say '18k' in very small script under the 'C' of 'Cross' and '750' under the 'S', the nib is a stainless steel one.

It's not the least bit uncommon when discontinuing a pen to save the "good" nibs for the current models and blow the old ones out with a lower karat weight or even a steel nib. I'm not just talking Cross, either.

(Yes, I'm still licking my wounds about Marlen. Why do you ask?)
