Hey everybody. I posted in the pen paraphernilia review forum, but i must say that traffic there is quite slow, so I might have more luck and better advice posting here.

What I was wondering is are there pen cases that are hard? Or rather, firm. What i mean is, a case that i could sit on and it would still protect my pens inside. I would like to get a case like that because I now find myself carrying more than one pen, and it's very inconvenient to keep them in my pockets now (i already have a phone, wallet, keys, mp3 player, and other things. don't want to have the pens). I would like to take this crush proof case and throw it into a backpack that also has heavy books and other such items. I don't know if I would be comfortable with a regular nylon/leather pen case in there.

I would appreciate suggestions. Preferably a 12 pen case, but a 2/3 is also good. I have had no luck finding something like this, and I could go back to pocket carry, but then i'd have to limit myself to 1 pen only, and I would like that to be a last choice.

Thanks in advance guys and gals of extreme pen knowledge. bunny01.gif

Montblanc makes some stiff-leather pen-cases...not sure how many slots...mine holds three...

Alternatively - You could stock up on those old metal cigar-tubes...?

I have an old school wooden pencil box. It has a metal clasp and is big enough to carry several pens. It is 1 1/2 inches thick, 3 1/2 inches wide and 7 3/4 inches long. Maybe you could find something like that at a thrift store. If you can find an old pen case, they usually hold three at least. I have a plastic pelikan case with elastic loops to hold three pens. Some of the older ones are soft vinyl on the outside and satin lined on the inside. You could further protect pens in a pencil box by wrapping each pen in tissue.

Just a thought.

ANM makes a good suggestion.

Slim, tough wooden boxes of a type suitable for transporting pens may typically be found in abundance in antiques shops, thrift shops and flea-markets. I've found heaps. I just never bought them.

Pelikan makes that Level 5 series but I think the largest size is a max of 5 pens. It's metal and looks quite sturdy (cool too).

see it here:

That looks very much like what i'm looking for, with a slightly more 'avant garde' design, but not that that's a bad thing.

The wood cases also sound like a good idea, i hope i can find some that aren't too large. don't want to carry another book in the heavy bag. Thanks for the suggestions so far, please keep them coming. cloud9.gif

You're not going to find anything more protective than these.

My buddy does a piquadro inside an otterbox
Me, I'd use an otter box with some sorta foam divders

Thanks for mentioning the otterbox. I'd never heard of it before. With that, I could get a normal 3 pen case and shove it in there, much like your friend does. That's a great idea.

You could try cigar shops, they sell some made for cigars, are fairly solid, take your pens in and see what fits...

I often use cigar cases for pens, one of which holds 4 pens in seperate fingers and is a hard case. Takes a fairly large pen, even my Laban Mento fits (just). I picked mine up at an antiques fair, but they crop up on ebay quite regularly (although I suppose you could buy new from a tobacconist)

I would second the cigar case.
I have two cigar-case like pencases from Rotring, that are quite stiff.
