Hello all,

In order to reach more suitable drying times for my writing style (lefty), I tried to dilute some of my favorite saturated inks. PR DC Supershow Blue was up first, with great success. Next up is PR Chocolat, an ink which I really like, but keeps up ending up on my hands (and smearing all over the place).
I found the ratio 60/40 (60% ink) a bit thin (bleeding), so I went for 70/30 for Chocolat. I haven't really tried writing, just a couple of sentences, but I think this will work. It's only a tiny bit less saturated, so in the future I will make 71,43ml out of each 50ml of these inks.

Regards,

Jarno.

By the way, I used "custom whitebalance" so the colours _should_ match.

Diluted it looks similar to Watermans Havana, maybe less red in it...

Even diluted, it's still pretty saturated, I thought the Waterman inks were pretty pale in comparison to PR or Noodlers inks, apparently not.
I might give these Waterman inks a try!

Jarno.

Very nice. I must have a bottle of Havana Brown now.

All depends on the color. WM Black is wimpy. WM Violet, Red, and Havana are very saturated. Green and South Seas Blue are basically in the middle. Not too saturated, but not washed out.

How did the diluted PR Chocolat perform in terms of drying time? smearing? feathering? bleed through?
Jarno
I tried DC Supershow blue, 60/40 and it bled a bit much on my 120gms premium laserjet paper. That is why went for 70/30 for the final mix for both DC Supershow blue and Chocolat. The behaviour is the same as the undiluted inks on the premium laserjet paper and the Clairefontaine paper I use at work, except for the drying time, which is much shorter. Especially on the Clairefontaine paper.

In general I don't have issues with smearing anymore. I did some drawing for some diagrams at work, and I did manage to smear this, but in general it's fine now. Feathering is and was never a problem, but the paper I use is quite high grade, maybe on cheap paper the ink behaves differently. I presume the viscosity of this diluted ink to be in the same ballpark as commercially available less saturated inks, while the undiluted inks are a bit more "sirupy".
Bleedthrough to the other page is also not a problem, but again, the high grade paper could be the reason for this. With the 60/40 mix I did notice a bit more rippling of the paper because of moisture absorption (the 60/40 is probably a bit watery compared to commercially available inks).

Best regards,

Jarno.

PR Chocolat, an ink which I really like,

Jarno:

Thanks for posting the scan. Though I'm not planning to dilute, I liked the color so much that I've got a bottle of this ink on the way from Pendemonium. Thanks for being a facilitator and helping me down the road toward ink addiction. thumbup.gif

You can't hurt me with this one! DC Supershow is already one of my favorite inks. In fact, my bottle is from the year that these were given out at the show (so it didn't cost me a dime). So, you may be able to make my bank account hemorage with other postings, but I've still got half a bottle of Supershow left! I foiled you! Ha, ha, ha!

You must get DC Supershow Blue. I just got this myself. Bee-you-tee-full!
