Quick question -- I'm considering buying a Sailor 1911 and wanted to confirm that the cap posts on a 1911 and that the pen isn't ungainly when writing with the cap posted. Thanks for any replies.

The 1911 posts easily, feels well-balanced, and is of a comfortable length. An excellent pen.

Yes, the cap posts and stays on well. I prefer to post due to the way I hold pens in general. The 1911 feels well balanced posted. It is not unwieldy and is about the same length posted as a Pelikan M605.

You didn't ask but bear in mind that Sailor nibs are finer. I like the precision but it's not for everyone.

I have a 1911 and just today ordered a Pro Gear.

I agree that the 1911 does look like a MB, and I do not care for the look of the 1911 all that much. I do not generally post the pen, although it is doable, but like any FP of some size, unless you have somewhat large hands it makes the pen a bit big. Still, the pen is light enough and balanced enough to do it.

All that said - I feel the nib is the best of any of the FPs I have (including Pelikan, Bexley, P51, Delta). That is why I am getting a Pro Gear. I like the look of it better, and the fine nib on my 1911 has been perfect right out of the box.

I have a Magellan, 1911s and 1911Ms. I post them and the pens feel fine to me.
The sterling 1911 is a separate case, though, because it is a heaver pen.

I concur variously with most of the previous posters. The 1911 does post well and is nicely balanced when posted. The design is also clearly a knockoff of the MB 14x series. However, my two Sailors I have written flawlessly out of the box and, from what I understand, this is very common. The clip is nothing special - I guess it really depends on what is important to you.

The Sailor 1911 posts just fine. Sailor makes really nice stuff, don't pay much attention to random shout downs over isolated incidents, I don't.

Go ahead, get your 1911, enjoy it. My experience is no one bends over more to please their customers than the Japanese.

Regarding posting of the Sailor( and the Pilot Custom ###): the gold band near the tail of the pen is ever so slightly raised. Thus, the cap touches the metal band and not the pen body when posted. This reduces the likelihood of getting scratches on the pen's body by posting. I wish my MB149 incorporated this in it's design.
