Full Version: Does Anyone Know about the Mont Blanc Clips for authenticity?

this guy on ebay has a guide that says you can tell if the Mont Blanc Meisterstuck is a fake if the clip has a groove in it. However, while my 144 does not have a groove, i have a 146 and a 149 that do--and i believe them both to be authentic as they have the correct nibs and when light is shown through them the barrels show ruby red. It is my thought that the earlier Mont Blancs may indeed have such a groove, and certainly would NOT have the word "pix" as this was added at around 1991. Does any one know about this? Quick response would be much appreciated.

Thanks

I'm not sure about the groove you mentioned but I do know most recent MBs have the word Pix on the underside of the clip. That's probably more reliable than whether or not there's a groove. But, for older MBs, I don't think Pix is on the underside of the clip either. I'm sure that those more knowledgeable than myself on this issue will weigh in.

All of my 146s and 149s have that groove, and I know they are genuine. The PIX on the backside of the clip started in 2000/1 I believe, but I bet Axel can give more accurate dates for that.

Thank you so much. i knew this to be the case, but just wanted to make for certain. However, how old are your 146 and 149s? Are they older than 2000? i ask this, because i'm wondering if you have any newer ones that do not have it? i know that my 144, for example, which is a newer pen, does not have the groove, but also has the word "pix"--but both my 146 and 149 are prior to 2000 and do not have the word pix and do have the groove.

thanks.

All of my 146s and 149s that I checked tonight are older than 1980 or so. I've sold all but one of my pens that are of later age than that.

This eBay guide was mentioned in a few other threads in this forum. The author of the guide makes wrong statements about MB pens, so I'd be cautious about this pen clip thing.

Really? Do you know where? i wrote the guy a brief letter asking him to correct it, but as far as i can tell, he hasn't done so yet. If there are other mistakes, i think those should be pointed out to him so as they can be corrected.

Agreed. All my authentic montblancs have got a groove on the clip and i'm pretty sure about the authenticity. I took a stroll at the local montblanc boutique as well, they all come with grooved clips! happyberet.gif

Don't worry, your pens are authentic Montblancs and no fakes.
