Full Version: a truely custom custom 823- my hg?

i really would like to get a pilot custom but of course what i truely want isnt available as far as i know. i have long lusted after a falcon nib but it seems like the two options are the 742 and 743. i am not a very big fan of cart or converters plus i really think the filling mech of the 823 is tres chic.

this brings me to my fantasy pen- a 823 with a f or m fa nib. why cant this be done, why is this not an option, why? the 823 and 743 both use the big #15 bock nib... i would think that a #15 fa nib could be fitted into the 823. perhaps i am just begging for an excuse not to buy both pens. do any of the sellers sell just a nib section? could a nibmeister pop out the nib and do a swap?

who are some retailers that i could talk with about this?

cheers,
ryan

Why not send an email to Richard Binder, he may be able to do something...

Pilot does not use "bock" nibs. All of their nibs are made in-house and the FA nib only comes in size (try not to confuse the FA nib for the Falcon pen). As for a flex 823, I believe Richard mentioned somewhere in this forum that he has successfully added flex to a 823 stock nib.

can you clarify the bold section? i thought the 742 was a pilot #10 and the 743 a #15 (like the 823). i have sent richard an email. hopefully i am not just chasing a pipe dream smile.gif.

i really am pretty naive about all of this so every bit of info helps.

cheers!

When I said "same size" i meant the line width not nib size. Here are the reviews of the Custom 743 FA, Custom 742 FA, and the Falcon which will hopefully any questions you might have.

got it! it doesnt come in f,m or b... just one size fits all type of deal.

i have drooled over those reviews (especially antonios amazing hand).

i have played around with a falcon pen before at a b and m shop (not the true fa nib). not as flexy as i really want hence wanting a 742 or 743... but i want a 823 with a fa nib (i know, i am starting to sound like violet beauregrade).

it just seems like a #15 nib should work in both pens that take a #15.

cheers,
ryan

It is possible, I am the owner of a Pilot Bamboo FA. I swapped the nibs myself and had the detail work done at the LA Pen Show. However, I wish you luck in trying to find an owner who is willing to part with their FA nib.

i saw those pics! very cool. gives me hope smile.gif.

i am emailing with a couple of retailers to see about getting a 'replacement' fa nib... i really hope so since i would imagine i would have to pry an fa out of some ones cold stiff hands wink.gif.

thanks for you nice review of the 743.

cheers,
ryan
