Hi,

I am very new to the joys of fountain pen collecting. This site is great for information, but I have a feeling it may be very bad for my bank balance!

The Sheaffer Snorkel has fascinated me for a while, it is an amazing design and I thought one would be a good introduction to vintage pens and make a nice dailly writer.

I have ordered this pastel grey Statesman Snorkel http://www.andys-pens.ukhome.net/sh959.shtml from Andy's Pens - it has been serviced and the sac and seals replaced, so it should be good to go. Can't wait for it to arrive!

Only problem is, whilst browsing this forum and spending hours following the links to different sites, I have now seen lots of other pens that are calling out to me

Hopefully the pen should be with me in a few days. Now all I have to do is to choose some nice ink for it. I have been looking at the reviews on the forum and there are so many that I like!

Just wanted to add another "congratulations." You're starting off with a marvelous first vintage pen. Your assessment is absolutely right: the Snorkel is a wonderful collector's piece and a great everyday writer.

Of course, I've been known to be just a bit biased when it comes to Sheaffers.

This is a grand place to celebrate a grand hobby. Enjoy!

Congrats on the pen and welcome to FPN! At least you aren't alone in your quest. It never fails when I find a pen I like and I get it I am already searching for the next one before the other one arrives.

I'm with you here misterh as today I received my first snorkel, a pastel blue Saratoga from FPN member luckygrandson. I'm delighted with the condition of the pen and, like you, fascinated by the filling mechanism. I'm sure you'll thoroughly enjoy yours when you get it
