Has any of you W-E collectors seen this color? The yellow is extremely strong so there's no chance it could be ambered pearl. A nice ringtop set. The pencil has some sort of black plastic cover or protector over the top between the ring and the gold. Sorry for the bad camera phone photo but its all I had at the time.

Very cool! I've seen that color, but I believe the instrument I saw was a Wahl-Eversharp desk pen.

They come in magenta n' blue too, btw Instead of yellow). Here too are some scarce Flamingo pens.

The picture above is of my pens shot by David. The yellow and black is commonly called bumblebee. The ringtop is the most common in the color but there are also faceted pencils and deskpens including deskpen tapers and holders. I have seen one deskset like that where the base also had an inly of the same material. I have heard stories of full size pocket pens in the color, but have never seen one. I have had dreams about a decoband in the color!

I had forgotten all about the Bumblebees until Syd reminded me of them and sent me a shot of his beautiful desk set. Perhaps, when he reads this, he will grace us with a posting of his desk set photo.

You awoke the somnolent Syd. I have been lurking and monitoring the various threads lately, just enjoying everyone's participation in the forum and staying out of the way. It is fun to watch the delight some newer arrivals to the Wahl-Eversharp brand or their discoveries bring to the other participants and themselves, without the Wahlnut jumping on every post these days. But you did ask if maybe I would post the Bumblebee Desk pen I sent a pic of to you. So, here are a couple of quick shots.





There are collectors of Carlton Ware and there are Wahl-Eversharp collectors. This desk set would be a winner for either.
The Carlton Ware company contracted with Wahl for the pens.

I have a number of different models in the flaming in addition to the ones Dr. i posted and if people really like desk sets, a nice one in Flamingo too. Mrs. Wahlnut has been after me to cull the desk pen collection lately, so maybe that will happen at the next show I go to....maybe. Don't expect to see either this one or the flamingo on the block any time soon, though.

Here are a few blood red pens from my collection. These are pretty much the more common ones (not that any blood pen is common) because I keep most of them in a safe deposit box. The one on the left however, is a three band gold seal desk pen which really should be in the vault. I have a bout 40 pens in this color including the 3 piece decoband set with pen, pencil and pocketknife. I call the color blood red because even though there is one catalog that calls it Flamingo, I find it hard to believe that anyone sober would call this color flamingo. It would be an odd flamingo that looked like this. By that naming logic a catalog might surface calling bumblebee Cardinal . Anyway, I'll post pics of other blood red pens another time if folks are interested.

Wow those are truely amazing. I remember when I first found out about fountain pens being listed on Ebay I found an OS Deco Band model in "blood red" and thought I would pile all the extra money I had together and take a crack at it. I had NO idea just how scarce the colour was, especially in that size. If I remember correctly it had a hairline or two around the lever area and still went north of $2000. I spoke to the owner several years later who had since sold the pen to someone else, but I'll never forget just how amazed I was that the price had gone more then 10 times then I had planned to bid.
If you do end up posting more pictures of your other models I certainly would enjoy seeing them!

I only know of four blood red deco bands. I paid 3500 for my pen and pencil and that was over 10 years ago.

Afraid not. The one on the far left is a badly crystalized and now translucent barrel on a post- Equipoise style pencil that came in a fairly bright red marble plastic, and the other one is the product of a badly enhanced photo, for as you can see in the detailed photos further down the auction pics, is made of red and black mottled hard rubber.

I know given the fine array of pics in this thread of posts and with the price information now added we will all be seeing Flamingos in our sleep, but the ones in this auction are not them.

Blood Red Color aside, are 3 band desk pens hard to come by or are they a more common item? I have one that looks exactly like yours but is in a mottled green pearl w/ black taper. It's wearing a wonderful and I mean WHUN-DER-FULL (incorrect?) #7 Wahl Oxford flexible (3B) Medium Stub. (gasp-swoon-thud!!! ) Gold seal on the barrel has been drilled. Neither gold nor gems could pry this pen from my clutches. But all the same, I'm currious what you and the Wahl nut think.

Three band gold seal desk pens were the high end desk pen and they are much less common that two band pens of the same era. What makes them pricey is "if" they have the correct nib which is the same large gold seal found in Deco Bands and OS Dorics. For that reason, many of the nibs have been harvested from the 3 band desk pens and lesser nibs substituted which is the case with yours. Still, it is a nice looking large desk pen and if it writes well, what's not to like?

My partner found it in an antique shop some years back, brought it home only to find the celluloid had seperated around several of the "chunks" between the lever & taper. Partner went ahead and carefully finished the break. Then fused that and a couple of minor Y shaped cracks back together. Let it cure then went at it with the micromesh sanding boards & it looks great. You have to know where the break was to see even the smallest hint of the work.

Incorrect nib or not I love it. I'm giving thought to transplanting it to a standard pen so it can be with me at all times. I need to find just the right pen for it though. I'm thinking OS Balance, Early Duofold Sr. or Sheaffer Flat Top. It will be a"franken pen" but I don't mind at all, I'm easy like that. what can I say it puts me on
