I have a black Conklin Symetrik, F nib(14kt, so it has some spring to it) I'd love to trade for the Charleston. I have a blue one I use, so this one got used once and is languishing. Here is a snap of the pen. On the left. I also have the Parker 75 on the right to trade.

Just thought I'd put these out there.

Hello,
Glad you got the pen. Would you be interested in trading the charleston for a Pelikan level 5 or a pelikan celebry? both are blue.

Well, the price range is quite different.
Conklin simetric http://www.fahrneyspens.com/Item--i-36187S $45 14K nib.
Waterman Charleston best price on the web $110 plus shipping 18K nib. Retails for over $169.

Pelikan Levels go for 20 euros in some european sellers at the bay.

Quite a different leage, IMHO.

Not trying to spoil the fun, just remarking it as it happens I have a Charleston in Silver trim with a broad nib that I may be considering to trade, too........

Adding my 2 cents worth, I think the Symetrik in the $45 Fahrneys add is the steel nib.
here is the quote from the site...
The Symetrik is a replica of a fountain pen produced by Conklin in the 1930’s. This vintage design is even more appealing for its great value. The unique, marbled finishes are crafted from special resins made exclusively for Conklin in Grey, Purple or Turquoise. Each pen has polished, silver-plated double bands and a clip etched with the Conklin logo. Available as a fountain pen with smooth, semi-firm steel nib, capped rollerball and twist-action ball pen.

Hello all,

I am not trying to rip anyone off, I just thought he may want something different. We all buy pens, then grow tired of them or decide that it is not for you. If you look at the level 5 on ebay, it can be purchased for about 47.00 us dollars, then pay about 20 dollars for shipping. about 70 us dollars total. I can purchase a Charleston for 84 dollars at my local pen shop here in Birmingham Alabama. It was just an offer. Along an offer for a pelikan celebry trade. Nothing underhanded, I value all fountain pen network members too much to try to pull something like that. thumbup.gif

Felix

FWIW, my pen has a 14kt gold nib, not a steel, and as was pointed out-here in the US Charlestons can be had for less. I don't even know if they are still making gold nibbed Symetriks, but they were a fair bit more than $45 when I got it. The pen is basically new, has papers/box. The nib is a nice responsive nib that shows some line variation with normal usage.

While stating that you are "not trying to spoil the fun" your post looks like you are trying to, especially "as it happens" you have a pen you want to trade. Either that, or you don't have all your facts quite lined up, and that can be detrimental to others when casually thrown out as hard facts. As someone who sells infrequently, I still make every effort to be honest in what I do. I don't think you will find anyone with a beef regarding the pens I have sold, and I have been at FPN for quite some time now. As mentioned, I was just putting this out there. Had ferrania been interested in the Conklin, but felt the Conklin was insufficient exchange, he could have asked that some money get put into the pot. As pointed out, sometimes people get tired of a pen and are willing to trade just for the sake of moving a pen along.

So, while the pens mentioned may be in "quite a different league", perhaps they are not as different as you think.
