Full Version: Omas Nib Change

I am in the process of acquiring the Celluloid set from Omas. The set comprises all the 7 different celluloids made by Omas and these 7 pens will carry all the nibs available from Omas (EF, F, M, B, BB, Stub & Italic).

From the reviews that I have seen, Omas nibs tend to be quite broad and wet fror their size. It was often said in the review that the Omas Fine writes more like other makers' Medium. Being an usual user of F or EF nibs, I fear that I would not be able to use the pens with the M, B and BB nibs much and so am thinking about changing these to F before taking delivery. But surely one of the things that made the set unique is that each pen has a different nib and all in all the set includes the full range...

To change or not to change, that is the question (sorry, cheap shot at plagiarism!).

Omas experts, please advise!!!

Thanks & best rgds

Sorry I think I have put this into the wrong forum, please can someone tell me how to move it to the Italian Pen Forum?

Thanks!

I acquired an OMAS Bologna FP with fine nib not too long ago and here is the link to my review. Hope this helps.

I would at least keep the stub and italic nibs, because you definitely don't see those everyday. One (not cheap) option would be to send the M, B, and BB to John Mottishaw, buy extra nibs in your choice of width, and then have him swap the nibs. This would allow you to keep the variety of nibs (albeit as loose nibs) while having seven pens that you'll actually use. Best,
David

PS I'm sure you'll get more responses once this gets moved to the Italian section.

Cellulophile,

Is there anyway I can move the topic to the correct forum myself or will I have to make a request to the Administrators?

Hi, Amberviv. I think you'll have to wait for one of the mods to move it, which probably won't take too long. I forgot to mention this in my previous post, but congrats on a great purchase. I own only one of the celluloid Paragons, but you won't be disappointed. Best,

Thanks David. I have spent countless hours ogling the pens on the net and finally I was pushed over the edge by the pictures from Omasfan's collection. Also this set is the old style paragon and that old Greek key is just about irrisistible to me. The pens would not be with me for few months' yet (I have to settle the remaining cost first!) but I am sure it will be well worth the wait.

I am jealous, really jealous! I was eyeing that set, if it's the one I am thinking of. Personally I like the way the medium comes from the factory, very wet. The last time I bought a New Old Stock Paragon from Classic, I was asked how it should be adjusted. I explained, and was surprised that it arrived so different than stock... less wet and consequently a narrower line. Turns out to work perfectly in conjunction with an other new old stock Paragon I have. So I use them as a pair for work, my planner, requires a finer line than notes etc. so I switch back and forth.

I think your decision is going to depend on what you like to write with. If you like Medium points. Then start there. You can always send them in one at a time and have them customized if you tastes change over time. I can't imagine too many people liking one of each kind of point. I would think you would end up with one or two you use and the rest sitting in the case. But tha is me. JD

Have a great time with them.
