Full Version: Got my FP from repair, but now it skips on me.

Quick background info: bought Montblanc Jules Verne in F. Intially wrote great, then got too wet and FP dripped drops of ink within a week or so. Originally wanted M because they are generally smoother and less scratchy, so since I needed to bring the the F in for repair, decided to do a nib exchange for M.

I now have the M but it skips. angry.gif I tried writing at slightly different angles and it still skips, so it's not my hand position. Will this skipping problem go away after the new M nib "breaks in?" Maybe I suppose, since it took a week before my F nib started to leak drops of ink.

If I have t bring my pen in for repair again, what can Montblanc do to fix the skipping problem? Is a skipping problem, a dry pen issue?

Thanks for any help on this.

I'm no expert, but I don't think waiting for the nib to be "broken in" is going to work. It either needs a good flush or nib/feed adjustment or both. Now, I am wondering if perhaps there aren't some residual oils on the replacement nib or its feed that are impeding ink flow...Have you tried rinsing the pen out with clear water with a drop of liquid dishwashing detergent? Sometimes the type of ink you use can make a difference. Maybe trying a freer-flowing ink like Waterman Florida Blue? (there must be others...)

Good luck!

If not initial cleaning, then I would suspect "baby butt" syndrome. It will require some smoothing work to fix.

I hope everyone reading this knows what we're talking about, Kendall tongue.gif

If not: here is a page on pen-related problems. The "baby butt" syndrome is explained in the "Pelikan Nib Skips — Easy to Fix?" query in the middle of the page.

Send it back until MB gets it right. Sorry to hear about your troubles, and I know it must be frustrating, especially with the $ that MB LEs cost. Keep us posted.
