Hello All,

I'm new to vintage Sheaffer land and have a couple of questions. Chiefly, I was wondering if there is a definitive book regarding models and their descriptions. For example, I have two Snorkels, but I haven't the foggiest clue as to whether they fall into the "Admiral" category, or the "Imperial" category. How does one tell?

Also, is there a Sheaffer repair manual available for the various models? I have Frank DuBiel's (sp?) repair guide, but am looking for something more specialized to Sheaffer.

Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Bluenotegrl;

The snorkel bit is easy as there are no imperials. Actually, for snorkels the easiest source is Richards site - richardspens.com under reference you'll find snorkels. Jims site - penhero.com is excellent as well. There is no book on Sheaffer that is any good at all. The general books do a nice little gloss over and the couple books dedicated tare completely unuseable. Ask questions here - that's the best place to get an answer that is usually quite reliable.

There are various official Sheaffer repair manuals that were put out by the company. Look to Bill at billspens.com for reprints.

Although there is lots of info avaliable on scattered pen sites, a reasonable book that provides dimensions, model info- color, dates, kind of clip , cap descriptions and the like is: 1998 Sheaffer Pen Encyclopedia and Data Book---A Compendium of Writing Instrument Lore and History by Ed Pasahow. Don't know if it is still available. I have found it to be a useful basic background text on Sheaffer productions--about 100 pages, lots of tables and so forth.
