Now, that Ink Palette has closed its doors. Where can I find micro-crystalline glaze to rub on an envelope over the address to waterproof it? Can someone point me to an online resource?
Maja
Hi Sidney,
I've never used the stuff (I rub envelopes with a cheap candle to waterproof the address part blush.gif ) but we had a FPN thread on it here. Looks like it may be called Microglaze ® .
There are a few websites that sell it (if you Google it, they come up) including http://www.paperinkarts.com/ and http://www.microglaze.com
Shop around for the best price and shipping....

Hope this helps,

I was ordering some ink the day before the Ohio pen show and I thought I give this stuff a try. After a week of no reply about my order being shipped I heard that Ink Palette closed its doors right after the pen show. I'd still like to give the stuff a try though. And I did the Google search, but left the hyphen in.

Micro-crystalline wax is also sold to museums under the name Renaissance Wax, so name should provide you with a few more suppliers.

Lee Valley (Canada) offers it under the name Conservators Wax.

Here is a good source of Renaissance Wax... I use it in pen making as the final top coat on my custom pens... it is buffs out the a great shine and resists fingerprints, unlike other waxes...
Arizona Silhouette carries it in two sizes... a little goes a long way

I used to use a candle, but now I just write envelopes with a Noodler's bulletproof ink. Sounds like a cheesy plug, but it's true. When I used to send parcels, I'd write an address label and then put a piece of thick clear tape over the top. I'm saving a lot of tape now.

Sidney, I bought some MicroGlaze from Paper and Ink Arts (one of the links Maja included) probably 8 to 10 years ago when it was $3.50 for the 1 oz jar. In their new annual catalog, which just came today, it is now $6. Mine is still as soft and usable as the day I bought it. I have 1/2 jar left; a little goes a long way.

Like Ray, I usually use Noodler's waterproof for addressing envelopes, but I print my own return address labels and my printing ink isn't waterproof, so I've been using the MicroGlaze on the return address labels.

I should try the candle. rolleyes.gif To waterproof my envelopes. Thanks to whoever made that suggestion.

I don't know about the wax so I shall leave that to others to recommend.

I have been using Noodler's Black and Pendemonium's Legal Lapis to address envelopes. When I mail a box that needs a bolder address I'll use a SharpieŽ. I just wanted to try the wax. That way I could use any ink to address an envelope. Thanks for letting me know that a little goes a long way. Instead of shopping for a jar I'll shop for a small tube.
