Dear all,

Yesterday I have received my new Sheaffer Valor PT with Medium nib, but I was shocked when I tried it. Instead of 'M', it writes something like 2B, and its writing is extremely wet compared to other models from Sheaffer like intrigue F, intrigue M, Snorkel M etc. Also, compared to medium nibs from other brands, like Waterman, Namiki etc, the Valors's 'M' it is extremely broad and wet.

I have tested it with several different papers and with cartridge / converter.

Otherwise the pen starts instantly, it is quite smooth, it looks amazing, but I simply cannot use it. So I would like to know, if it is normal, that the valor is that broad and wet, or my pen is faulty. If it is normal (as it was intented to be a 'Signature Pen...'), does Sheaffer have a Nib exchange program or anything, as this nib is not a usable Medium for me...

The pen is from Ebay - PensPens (germany) and there is an 'Italy' inscription on the pen. Is it possible, that these are made for Europe in italy? And they are not identical to the ones made in USA? I have no idea.

Any comment / advise is greatly Appreciated!

Regards, Laszlo

The Valor is made in Italy. They were never made in the USA. The writing unit (nib & feed section) are made in the USA for now.
The pen should not write that wet. There is something wrong with your feed. You may send it in for repair to Sheaffer.
Call 1-800-FINEPEN and speak with the service department.

On PenHero's site, I found this table:

Sheaffer Extra Fine Nibs - 0.7 mm
Sheaffer Fine Nibs - 0.9 mm
Sheaffer Medium Nibs - 1.2 mm
Sheaffer Broad Nibs - 1.5 mm
(Source: http://www.penhero.com/PenSale/SheafferSto...eafferNibs.htm)
If it is True, the medium nib is Really 2B compared to other brands, as the sizes for other brands are the following:

Sailors F - 0.3mm
Pelikan F - 0.4mm
Waterman F - 0.5mm
Lamy F - 0.6mm
Parkerf F - 0.7mm

Sailors M - 0.5mm
Waterman M - 0.7mm
Pelikan M - 0.7mm
Lamy M - 0.8mm
Parker M - 0.8mm

Also I read somewhere that the Nib section of the Valor is Semi-Flexible. I am pretty 'heavy handed' so, this also might cause the problem. So probably the pen is not faulty but simply too broad and flexible to me. But please, someone who has expreience with a Valor M, confirm it. I still cannot decide if my pen is faulty or simply that broad with my wrtiting style.

my Valor is also a medium nib that writes sort of broad and wet.

i like it that way but i can not use it on just any papers!!!... i like the combination of my Valor on Black and Red Notebooks, but the ink just won't dry fast enough. so i use on office depot 28lb. acid free inkjet paper and i can live with that.

ps. i use inks that won't dry fast... i think i will try pelikan blue, it's a bit dryer than PR midnight blues, which is what i got in my Valor now.

Sheaffer does have a nib-exchange program, within 30days of purchase I think. My email to their service dept got a quick response, so you could try there.

cheers,
eric
