Ok, anyone else get these feelings?

That feeling where you start scrounging for empty boxes--any boxes--trying to figure out where you can store your pens.

That feeling when you can't wait months for your local pen show and you start looking for excuses to travel to visit acquaintances in towns where there's a pen show that weekend.

That feeling when you're debating whether to restore that Parker 21 with the cracked section--or that Parker 51 Special with the missing feed and collector--because it's going to add to the pile of pens that definitely _need_ restoring (like the Sheaffer Snorkels or the Vacumatics).

That feeling when you find that really rare item on ebay and you bid an amount you never thought you'd spend for a vintage pen--half-hoping you'd win and half-hoping someone else notices it and outbids you so you don't have to tell your significant other what you just spent.

I know that one too well. Did that on some Vac sets on ebay that were in pretty nice condition that ended up going near 200 dollars, if not more. Boy would I have had some explaining to do if i'd won.

But sometimes, it's fulfilling just to click that 'place bid' button, just as a way to scratch at that itch that doesn't go away.

Oh, no, no - I don' t know WHAT you are talking about. Never had those feelings at all. Mind you, I try to never take my husband to a pen show (he is a pencil guy and doesn't get my FP addiction). He doesn't question my purchases, for the most part, and in return I try to ignore the parade of antique rugs and old Christmas ornaments arriving at our front door via eBay! HAHAHAHAHA

Heh, I know...and I'd continue to remain in ignorant bliss were it not for the accursed people at Ebay insisting on showing in the "My Ebay Summary" page the total amount I've spent winning auctions for the past 60 days.

Hopefully, that number will be the calamine lotion to soothe the itch to buy anything over the next few months smile.gif

Those pesky Golden Webs don't help the situation either, do they? Congrats on winning a nice one! thumbup.gif

I understand I am new to this and I am overwhelmed..LOL... but I know my addictive personality and I have gotten my feet wet and picked up a few pens so I am better but I keep looking LOL

I know this feeling all too well.
In the passed few months I have overspent on pens.I roughly spent 2000$+ so I know when its time to stop buying pens for a while.
In the near month I am not buying any pen,I did bid on one pen but luckily for me someone out bid me so I will not break my word to myself.

Next month on the 10th I will order my next pen but this month I am pen buying free.

I'm taking a break. I have not added it up dollar-wise, probably around $800 or so, but I think I have added about 30 pens over the last nine months. So, seems like an excellent time to stop and use what I have already!

Also my eBay count is at a nice round number. That helps. Let's just stop right there.

In all seriousness, it is hard. In the psych world, it is considered a compulsive disorder. The key is not to go into debt to collect. I am amazed at some of the incredible collections I have seen amassed by people who have been collecting less than 10 years. I figure they must be compulsive, with either a big paycheck and no expenses, or a large credit limit on multiple cards.
I have spent a bunch in the last several months, but I'm pulling the plug on big purchases for now. Just too many other things to spend my dough on, like a new kitchen, says the "boss."
Time to set back and enjoy the heck out of what I have, and enjoy studying and using what I have acquired.

I was watching that one, though I already have a junior slender G/W that I think I paid way too much for 4 years
ago.

Nice pen.Have a rip-roaring time with it! thumbup.gif

I know what you mean.
I am riddled with obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD)
just bought this baby last week.
The boss doesn't know about it yet.

"Ouch" when she finds out. mellow.gif

Wish me luck.
Paul.

Congrats. that is one rare beauty. My capper was the purchase of a Parker 33. I have wanted one for quite a while to fill out the early Parker side of my collection, and there were two on ebay last week. I let the first one go, but nailed the second one. And no, the Boss does not know about it. I'd receive a severe beating about the head and shoulders. roflmho.gif

Indeed thats the key factor here, not to get yourself in debt.I think the trem OCD (Obsesive Compolsive Disorder) is overused here.I dont think you need to have OCD to get into a buying frenzy.I think its more about the maturity of a person to know when to say STOP to yourself.
In my case the erge to buy is VERY strong but I simply have to look at my bank account and see its time to wait and not spend.
The key word is BALANCE.find the golden line between your wish to buy pens and your chequing account ability to pay for it.
