Has anyone here used Waterman black ink? I ask because I tried a dip test w/ my newly purchased mont blanc yesterday in the store w/ Waterman black. When I got home to flush the pen with water, I noticed that the waterman had a bluish hue in the clear water. Even when cleaning the nib on tissue paper, there was a bluish tone. I am now curious whehter or not the pen was already dipped before with some blue ink.

But I believe sometimes it's not uncommon for a black ink to show yellowness or some other color variation as nothing is true black. Right?

Or maybe it wasn't waterman black but waterman blue/black (however - the color looked quite black and not blue on paper).

If any of you have used Waterman black before, your help would be appreciated! Thanks! smile.gif

I've had the same experience. Some blacks have a distinct blue tint when diluted, others have a brown tint when diluted.

Excellent. You can see that I am a super paranoid person. I don't like it when the pen was prevoiusly dipped and wanted to make sure what I had was right out of the box! smile.gif

Why not! Merchants have to sell their stuff. So someone else dipped the pen and didn't like it. Seems a good thing to me. The merchant allowed the person to try the pen before buying, and let him chose another pen which he liked better.

I doubt it was Blue-Black, it is much more blue than black. I don't see it on paper, but when rinsing Waterman Black does appear to have a blue hue. This may be for a completely different reason, but when I wrote something with Waterman Black and put some water on it, only blue was left on the paper.

Thank you all for the replies.

Also, I don't mind it if the pen was dipped before by someone else. However, if there is so much blue ink in the chamber that a few flushes would still show a previous color in the cup of water, then this is unacceptable to me. I am sure others would agree with me. I would call it a used pen and not a dipped one in relatively new condition.

Anyway, I don't think mine was even dipped. When a pen is presented to you, it 's usually quite obvious if it has been used.

Thanks again! smile.gif

It is not unusual for a black ink to contain many colors. I have a bottle of black Quink that is a mixture of blue, purple, orange, red, and yellow.
