I think the heading says it all, but I'm a man of many words, so here are some more:
I recently restored a Cedar Blue 51, 1947 Q2 with a medium-wet fine 14K nib. I filled it with Noodler's Blue-Black, which matched the body fairly well, and carried it for a few months. It wrote very nicely, with a bit of feedback from the nib, and never misbehaved. It blows bubbles for 11-12 pumps of the filler, and holds a ton of ink, just like it should.
I've been itching to try a VP, though, and while I'm trying not to acquire more pens, a trade leaves the net number of pens the same. I'm not too picky as to color, age, or nib size. My preferences are rhodium trim and a fine nib, but I'll happily consider all offers.
I don't have pictures to post, and my schedule for the next few days isn't conducive to taking any. The 51 is not in mint condition, but it's certainly better than "user-grade". There are a few marks to the body and blind-cap, more noticeable since I polished the pen. There are no cracks, though, and the color match between the hood, body and blind-cap is very good. The imprint is strong and clear, and the nib is a 1947 RU-PL. The collector and breather tube are clean and in perfect shape.
The Lusterloy cap had several shiny stripes from carry, and a touch of corrosion on the clip. I have refinished the entire cap to the best of my abilities, but it's not quite the beautiful satin finish it originally had. There are faint swirl marks on the frosted section, visible at a foot, but without a bead blaster, I'm unable to do better. The corrosion polished out nicely, as did the trim ring at the bottom.
If you're interested, but waiting on pictures, send me a PM so I can gauge interest. If no one pipes up, I'll post this for sale and get my VP the old-fashioned way.
Best,
Jon
