I still have no place to set up a light tent or anyhing but decided it was time to take a picture of all of my pelikans. How did I go from whining about having only two to having 8 now?

anyway... here it is

this picture just intrigued me.

from left to right we have:
Pre-'97 grey marble M200,
pre-'97 Telekom magenta and grey M200,
Green Marble M200
Green Translucent M200
Blue striped M400
White Tortoise (Honey) M400
at the bottom is a 120
at the top, the Piazza Navona 600. (or is it officially a 620?)
Velma
How pretty.

I lust after the magenta and grey Telekom in a manner that is neither graceful nor dignified.

*sigh*

Hi,

Nice pens! I have four Pelikans, one Pelikano, one Steno, an L65, and an M200.

Very nice flock! I never used to be too fond of the white tortoise model ... until I actually saw one in the flesh, as it were, a few weeks ago. I've been longing for one to keep my M200 company ever since, and I fear that your fine photograph hasn't done anything to stop my dreaming.

Hi,

And my own flock...

Oh, I dunno. You were quite well behaved at my table in New York while you were writing with the Telekom I use for a demonstrator with a needlepoint in it. biggrin.gif

Here's another flock of birds (actually I don't think flock is correct for Pelikans, but I can't remember the correct term).

left to right:

100 with Burton Custom Binde in sheaffer Amber Glow
100, Black
100, Green Marble
100N, Gray marble
100N with Burton Custom Binde in Olive Ripple HR
101N, Tortoiseshell
100N with Burton Custom Binde in Duofold Mandarin yellow
100N with Burton Custom Binde in Duofold orange
1935 Originals of their Time LE, Malachite
1935 Originals of their Time LE, Lapis
1931 Originals of their Time Yellow Gold
Ibis, black

My favorite group of birds.

Wow! Nice pens everybody! I don't have any Pelikans yet. I want a pelikano, a M805, and that's all I've seen that would fit my hand.

she was just hoping you didn't see her drool.

velma, you might contact Regina Martini - i imagine she's sold out of 'em but you never know. It is one of my favorites - the magenta is lovely to my eye. Perfect match for Noodler's Saguaro Wine.

Just love my three Pelikans! Great wet writers...particularly their ability to be stored for a couple days but the ink just flows the second you put nib to paper. What's everyone's thoughts on the vintage ones: same characteristics?

My best,

Paul

KCat,

Which model is that? 400? 600?

Dillo
Hi,

It is the M400 White Tortoise. smile.gif

KCat, you're torturing me! I give in - take my credit card, my life insurance, the deeds to my house.
Neil

PS: In response to Dennis' comment about 'flock' not being the right word for a group of Pelikans, I hereby declare 'a lust of Pelikans' to be the appropriate phrase.

Well, it could be a flock/brief/pod/pouch/raft/rookery/scoop/squadron/rookery(for white pelicans)...but I think "lust" works best here smile.gif Those are some gorgeous Pelikans, KCat and Dennis. "Honey" is in very fine company there, KCat (very nice pics, btw!)...and Dennis, the Burton bindes look great on those old 100's...and that 101N in Tortoiseshell is drool.gif-worthy.

Kcat: Your original photo is lovely and presents a color scheme of Pelikans I wouldn't expect. I notice your pens are largely not of the traditional stripped design that Pelikan uses as its brand design. Three of the four of my Pelikans are stripped. (And I just gotta get one of those red stripped ones one day...)

Hi Kcat,
They are all nice pel's indeed(I have a M215 and im quite happy with except its a little small for my hands biggrin.gif ) but the M400 White Honey or Tortoise Shell it looks best drool.gif

Only have a gray demonstrator M200 here, but it's wonderful. Writes like a champ every time, no matter how long it's sat. Pelikan EF nib is nice, but the 0.6mm Binder stub . . . . smile.gif9

Barely. It's amazing how much drool a cotton salwar kamiz absorbs. Besides, that was my first sighting of one. They've been haunting my fantasies since then.

i like that close-up, too. just found it intriguing to see the colors side-by-side so close. it doesn't show off the Telekom enough though - i'll have to take some pics of that one by itself.

they're mostly 200s as you can see and i've never seen a striped 200. doesn't mean they don't exist.. not sure if they do or don't (Mark? Rick?) I had a 250 but it just never called to me, ya know. I guess I love "marbled" or "swirled" colors more than solids or even stripes. I do love my White Tortoise though - the stripes are very cool on that one. The P. Navona is almost a combination of stripes and swirls which is very cool. I wouldn't mind having a red stripe someday. The green is nice too but the red is richer. The blue stripe, to my eye, is just a gorgeous shade of blue. Perfect with DC Blue 2003. smile.gif

i realized that the P.N. reminds me of chocolate milk (made with syrup vs. powder) when you first start to stir it. maybe that's why i like it so much. smile.gif

this is one feature of pelikans which has been consistent throughout. Every one I've ever owned starts up right away. Even if it's not been used for a week or two (and assuming there is ink in it!) And believe it or not, i do forget to use all of them for some significant stretches of time. smile.gif

This has been true for my two Namiki VPs as well. Where I can't say that about *any* of my other pens. I wish I could. None of them are bad and most will start up as long as they've been in use in the past few days. But none of them maintain flow like the pels and VPs do. My VP F will falter if I forget to click it shut for more than 20 or 30 minutes. But that is a situation I consider to be an unfair test of a pen's flow.

so.. yeah... i am very much biased towards Pels not just because of their look and feel and quality - but also because of that particular quality. Thus far, the P.Navona has lived up to the same rep.

yes. the .6mm is wonderful. though i would like one just a tad narrower. smile.gif
