Hello all,
I am trying to compare writing thickness of Montblanc nibs (particularly in the 146 LeGrand and 149).

I would appreciate it if any person who has an image of a (Montblanc) writing sample would post it, and specify what size nib he or she has.

I apologize if this topic has already been investigated. I have been searching the site all morning, but my "search-fu" may be weak today.
Thanks.

LT Mac:

There is a chart comparing stroke widths and nibs right online: Montblanc nib stroke widths. That is likely more objective than comparing various size photos of writing samples of differing hands using different pressures and angles. Check it out!

Fred

P.S. Although, maybe not. The EF stroke looks wider than the F stroke!

Fred: Good advice, but I am actually looking for more subjective "data." I have looked at that page on the Montblanc website in the past, and in fact, have written with various sizes of nib, but usually only with Montblanc ink. I think that you can get much more sense of the different "characters" of the nibs by seeing different writers' results, especially when various inks are used, in the same vein as examining hand-written ink reviews. For example, the difference between the results of using Noodler's Britannia's Blue Waves and J Herbin's Bleu Pervenche in my Namiki Vanishing point (fine) is pretty clear due to the characteristics of the respective inks.

Here is an example of an early 80's MB 149 with a BB nib. Written with MB turquoise 39100 on a regular school type notepad

There is a MontBlanc Boutique in the Ala Moana Shopping Center in Honolulu (and one on Maui too). If you go there, they have a tray of 146s that have every nib size MB makes. They are inked up and ready to go and you can compare nibs all you want. To me, that's the best way to choose a nib.

Ed,
I have actually done that already (at Ala Moana, no less), but I am really more interested in seeing how other brands of ink perform through Montblanc nibs. All they use at the boutique is Montblanc ink (go figure). But thanks for the suggestion.

Ah, I see. That's an interesting question too because the pen will perform differently with varying brands of ink (and even colors).
