I will now review the Level 65. I will try to be as honest and unbiased as I can be about this pen.

The Pelikan Level L65 is one of Pelikan's school pens.

It shares its smooth, wet, and stiff nib with the Pelikan Pelikano. Since it is a school pen, Pelikan decided not to engrave it with any more than one letter designating the nib grade and to eliminate the breather hole.

This pen uses the Level filling system. Because of the design of the filling system, filling is cheap and messless, and you can also use all the ink in the bottle. The pen has a translucent grey barrel that has two reservoirs, the main one and the secondary one. The rear end of the pen has a knob with a white dot on one side and a white triangle on the other side. There is also a corresponding white dot on the barrel. The main reservoir is filled by plugging the knob-end of the pen into the ink bottle and squeezing the ink bottle a few times. Because you do not dip the nib into the ink bottle, you do not need to wipe the nib. To fill the secondary reservoir, you turn the knob so that the white triangle points at the white dot on the barrel. Once the secondary reservoir is full, just turn the knob back into its original position--dot above dot. You can also do this before flying with the Level to prevent leakage--very convenient and ingenious! The only down side of this filling system is that you have to disassemble the pen to clean it or empty it by pressing two dots on the top of the barrel with a toothpick and pulling the filler knob. To tell you the truth, it is easier to clean than my M200 which I will discuss later.

The Pelikan Level L65 is sold with its special 30 ML ink bottle which, once empty, can be filled with your favourite fountain pen ink.

The Pelikan L65 is a good pen for the money if you like or need a large ink capacity as long as you don't mind disassembling the pen to clean it or empty it. Its two reservoirs prove very useful for frequent fliers.

Pengallery.com still has Pelikan Level 65 pens for sale on their web site. They are at Kuala Lumpur.

The L65 reminds me of the Lamy Safari in some way -- maybe it's the shape of the clip and the general styling.

Isn't a Pelikan Level essentially a glorified eyedropper pen? That would explain the mammoth ink capacity
