I have two Omas pens, a new style Paragon Arco Bronze with a medium nib and an Extra Lucens with a fine nib. Has anyone had experience with other nib sizes for either of these pens? Also what sizes are offered and how would I go about doing a nib exchange? Address? Costs?

Thanks so much!

You might want to post your question in the Italian section or ask the moderators to move it for more answers.

I have an Arte Italiana Paragon, same pen in sheeps clothes with a fine. What experiences would you be looking for? smile.gif Does it work? Yes, very well, no issues.

As to swapping a nib, they offer all sizes, EF, F, M, BB and I believe they offer a factory stub hmm1.gif I'm fuzzy on the Omas nib selection, someone will come along and know for sure. You can bring it back to where you bought it and they will send it in for you or shoot off an email to Omas yourself. You can find the addy, both snail and email, on the Omas web site (at least they offered that info at one time, it should be there) and they will tell you what you're looking for as to cost. I think you want OMAS.com and it should get you there.

Omas nibs are generally very smooth, and have a great flow--sometimes a bit on the really wet side. I like the Fine and Extra Fine nibs, thought the production has not been consistent. Older models--from around late 1990s--were closer to the European standards. In addition, the nibs had a bouncy quality which makes them a pleasure to use. More recent Extra Fine nibs have the usual problem in contemporary nibs: the horizontal stroke is wider than the vertical stroke.

Regarding the exchange, Kenro Industries is handling Omas repairs now. They take about four weeks to do a nib exchange, although, I would strongly suggest having the nib replaced and fine tuned by John Mottishaw.

I second Escribiente's recommendation for John Mottishaw at www.nibs.com. He does have quite a few Omas nibs in stock and even has had the white gold simple one for the brown Lucens. He'll also make sure that the nibs are smooth, ink flow adjusted to your liking and the will also reground them if you request it. My experience with Omas nibs is that not two mediums or fines write the same. I've has some fines write wider than mediums and mediums write like fines... I think they shouldn't stamp that letter on the side of the nib. Some nibs are stiff, some are flexible and some are smooth and others are toothy. It's quite a gamble. If you have a nib that writes well, don't have it changed by Omas because you never know what you'll get back.

Omas in Canada is represented by LSF Trading, 10 Cedarwood Crescent, Nobleton ON, L0G 1N0. Phone 905 859 1989. Mr Albert and Michael Pons are the owners if I'm not mistaken. It doesn't take longer than it does with Kenro to have the pen shipped to Italy and back and if they have the nib in stock they can exchange themselves - on regular models that is, forget the Lucens. LSF is the cheapest (and most secure?) option if you ship from Canada.

I hope this helps. Thanks once again Ashley for the wonderful Pelikan Hunting LE with the Minuskinized stub nib that you have sold me through PT. It is such a pleasure to write with and to look at!

PS I think LSF also represents Visconti and other brands.

Thanks everyone for all your help!

I'm sure glad you like the Hunting LE. I'm glad it found a good home. Thanks too for all your helpful information.

Take care
