Today I found a parker vacumatic in emerald green pattern. It has some unusual things as follows.
1. cap has a clip like a blue diamond clip without a blue diamond. It had never been there. the cap has a
black jewel, and a band with //\\ like pattern.

2. barrel has imprints 'MADE IN CANADA', 'PARKER VACUMATIC' under the parker vac writing something like 'R.E.G.D.M.S'
and most unusually 'PAT NO. 31_982', .53.is written. The no is somewhat hazy, so I am not sure about the third digit.
the semiflex nib says 'PARKER U.S.A.' The pen is single jewelled junior size one.

So anybody knows about the patent marking on vacs? And what is the date of the pen? It does not seem to have the usual date code.
And is it worth the $35 I paid for it? It is in excellent condition. I willsay nearmint
Thank you.

YES, some Canadian Vacumatics are different from the ones made in the US...
I have 3 in my rotation and all are slightly longer than the same model year US Vacumatics... they generally run about 5.25" long while the US ones are about 5.125"... not much of a difference but measureable...
Also on all 3 of my Canadian Vacs the nibs run from semi-flex to flexible... I have only found this on Canadian Vacs... none of my US Vacs have flex nibs at all...
The marking is REG. T.M.S The Patent Number is 318982
Are you sure about the .53. number... that does not sound right for a date code...
The date code is to the right of the patent number...

Yes I am sure about the .53. number. The imprint is in much bigger font than the 'PAT NO' imprint and the imprint is perfect
except some fading in the patent no.

I will try to post some photo if I can click it.

.53. is correct and I believe that it denotes 2nd quarter 1953. Us Canucks knew a good thing when we saw it and kept making those Vacs for a long while after they went out of the lineup in the USA.

I have about three or 4 Canadian Vacs in that date range at the moment, but that will hopefully change at the pen breakfast tomorrow. smile.gif

Griz isn't your 5.25" a long Major?? I have had a few of these and I think every one of them was Canadian. Ed Harris was one and I just sold an Azure Long Major last week to Kurt.

Cheers,
Sean

I have a '53 Canadian Vac (azure). I like to tell myself that it's the last Vacumatic ever made. You never know.

Canada appears to have made vacs through 1953, unlike 1948 in USA

Blue Diamond went bye bye in 1948, so post 1948 (thus canadian) high line vacs had the split-arrow (non blue diamond) clip previously seen in non-high line pens.

The pen is likely one of the many "Loon" Vacs issued to the Yukon snow patrol from 1953 to 1982.
The Loon feather on the arrow had no need for the blue diamond; everything up there was already blue.
The USA nib was likely purchased 3 miles across the border in the Great Alaskan Nib Shop.
As for the initials: R.eal E.skimo G.uys D.emand M.ore S.now

The missing digit is zero, which is far more than I know about this pen. At any rate I'll offer you $20 and a box of Emergen~C for it at the show tomorrow. :-] ~pb2
