hi everybody.
Recently in a flea marker I found an old pen. I was not sure about the pen, but it had very flex nib,
and the seller was willing to leave it for a pittance, and the pen was in quite good condition.
So I bought it. Back home I cleaned the pen, it was remarkably clean(no ink in the barrel or nib.) I didn't
knew how to fill the pen, so I ask another man(an experienced collector of parkers), he too had no
idea about how to fill the pen or the time of its origin but he said it is an eyedropper filler.
I would be really thankful if anybody tells me its approximate date and how to care and fill the pen. Now I left it as it was.
I will try my best to describe it.

cap:- simple cap with no inscription as in the picture.
nib:- very flex fine nib with inscriptions "MABIE TODD & CO -NY-"
grip:-written "SWAN" with a no 1500.
barrel:- written "THE 'SWAN' PEN
MABIE-TODD & CO LTD.
MADE IN ENGLAND."
on the barrel a swan is also depicted and under 'trademark' is written.
overall the pen is very very light.
I also enclose a photo. Please forgive me for the very bad quality, but it should give an idea.

Thank you.

This is a Mabie Todd eyedropper. The 1500 on the cap indicates that the nib should be a #1 nib, that there are no gold fittings on the barrel, and that it has a longer cap than its predecessors. These were made in England far longer than in the US. We know it is no earlier than 1915, because that is when the non-US holdings of Mabie Todd were sold to the English branch of the company (which had been set up as a "Limited" corp. on 12/31/1914 for that purpose). It could have been made any time during the next 10 years or more. I would run some water through the section (the part that unscrews and holds the nib) and rinse out the barrel. Depending on the fit of the feed (the part beneath the nib) it may work perfectly fine. Just get some fountain pen ink (NOT calligraphy or drawing pen ink) and fill the barrel and screw the section back in. If there are problems, the nib/feed fit probably needs some adjustment.

You should also pack a bag, because a jealous mob of us will be around your house tonight with the pitchforks and torches, seeking to get your treasure. puddle.gif Nice pen.

Thank you dlmoak for your suggestions. I will fill it with parker quink washable blue.

Yes Mr Bitterman I should heed you especially considering my $15 investment in it roflmho.gif

Thanks nittany.

One thing I forgot to mention at the butt end of the end there are markings ' 1513, FINE'.
The cap has no inscriptions, the GRIP has inscriptions " 'SWAN' 1500'.
does it help in any way?
