Some time ago a member made reference to a new extremely limited edition pen by the Sailor Pen Company.
In a recent mook (Japanese magazine-book) some good pictures were published I thought interesting to share.
Japanese mooks typically provide information on the latest pens with emphasis on those made by Japanese makers, good spreads on nibs with pictures and writing samples, inkswith color charts, some vintage pens, and pen ephemera. They are a great resource and available through resources listed at the top of this forum.

Fascinating scans Stan, thanks. Are both pens priced at U$ 160000, or only the one that is not torpedo shaped? I do notice the two-tone nib on the first pen. However, I fail to understand the differences between these pens and top end Danitrio or even Namiki pens, that sell at 10% of this price. Of course, there is a premium for the Limited Edition, and it is a Sailor pen, but still. Are there differences in maki-e techniques or material used that causes these pens to be so expensive? Thanks, Ruud

If the box is done in high Maki-e as well, and the artist is a famous one... well...
Also, the work looks better than other pens out there- not saying its worth $160000. Im sure there are just as good Dani or Namiki works out there.
It looks amazing.

Thanks for the scans Stan. These pens are truly gorgeous but i have to agree with Rudd about missing the point explaining such a high price....
It would be great if we could get a translation of the text on the scan....curiosity..

I love Sailor fountain pens but there's nothing that could explain 160.000 $ for a fp...

Thanks for the info.
The pens are very interesting to look at, but they are not the kind of pen I would buy. If I had a spare $160,000, I would build a killer addition on the house, a new Corvette, a fist full of Nakayas and bank the rest.

If I were truly wealthy, I'd buy one... or possibly all of the flat-top styles.
I think it goes without saying though, that if one had enough money lying around for a 160K *pen* to not be considered obscene, one would hardly being comparing it to a Namiki and mulling over the value versus cost.

You'd just buy them all.

The one in the first photo is $160,000 and others are cheaper (in a relative term

). The flat-top one on the left in the second photo is $7,800 and the torpedo shaped one is $24,000.
The $160K one has maki-e over sterling silver and "super engineer plastic". Also the box itself costs $20K-30K

Well, I don't need the box...

OK, I'll take your box, sell it, and have Nakayas and Danitrios made to my order
