If that is an authentic Sheaffer, then wow - what a beautiful pen.
It looks like a gold or gold-filled overlay, lifetime flat-top Sheaffer. However, the white dot on the clip perplexes me. I don't think that Sheaffer figured out how to put a white-dot on metal until the late forties, and it didn't look like that.

Can you give us some more information as to any imprints on the body, clip or nib?

Jim - are you out there? Any ideas? Is this some sort of late flat-top model that Sheaffer kept for the high-end, or is this just a fancy version of a no-nonsense?

It looks like a Sheaffer Nostalgia, which I believe was introduced in 1970 and made through the early 1990s. They were expensive pens and in good condition, would be worth a nice amount. The 925 probably means that the filigree is sterling silver - but yours looks gold, which may mean gold plate over sterling, or vermeil.

Nostalgia is a good name for it. If it weren't for the white dot I would have sworn that was an early 20th century overlay - though the clip is probably a little bit different.

Were they cartridge/converter, or did Sheaffer get nostalgic with the filler as well? Either way it's a cool pen.

It's a cartridge / converter pen and was intended to recall the overlay pens of the late teens.

Apart from the gold plating also the 14K gold nib puzzles me: the Nostalgia (as I know it) had an 18K nib.

This is not to say that it isn’t a real Sheaffer ... only that it seems to be a rare specimen!

Well, I looked in the latest edition of Paul Erano's pen book, and the sterling silver and gold electroplate versions of the Sheaffer Nostalgia fountain pens (the examples were from ca. 1990) were priced at $550 each. From what Sheaffer afficianado Rick Horne (The Southern Scribe) says here (with picture) the vermeil (the one you have) is one of the hardest to find in the Nostalgia series. Actually, he says on that page, only the solid gold model is rarer. By the way, I am not sure how recently the vermeil model there was sold...It could be quite a bit out of date, and I am not sure of the current value of the vermeil.

There is a 14K Nostalgia fountain pen here with a 14K nib that is currently being sold for $850 USD.
Oh re: the 14K nib business, according to this post on alt.collecting.pens-pencils here
the 14K nibs were found on the first issue of the Nostalgia line.

I guess if you had to put a price range on the vermeil model, you might say it's between $550 and $850 USD, just based on the info above. Depends on the condition of the pen, etc. The engraving will probably lower the value in this case, as the VintagePens.com.au page implies....

Thanks for sorting this out, Maja! Especially in the early nineties Sheaffer seems to have been experimenting with various nibs before finally settling on 18K.
