I love the rich dark green colour of PR's Sherwood Green cloud9.gif , but unfortunately its super-slow drying time is really a pain in the derriere angry.gif . I've managed to smear some of my patients' notes written with it, some during follow-up visits 1-2 months later! blink.gif

I hate the very light hue of the Sheaffer Skrip Green, but its relatively quick drying time is a big bonus thumbup.gif

Now one fine day (2 days ago, actually tongue.gif ) I decided to concoct a brew of both inks on a 50:50 basis in an inkwell that came along with the Laban Abalone pen purchased late last year.... and wow!! laugh.gif ..... the result is just plain superb - a rich green ink (ever so slightly lighter than Sherwood Green, but is more desirable in my personal opinion) that dries as quickly as the Skrip Green thumbup.gif

I think I've found the ink that will reside in my Stipula Giardino di Boboli LE and Platinum #3776 Jade Celluloid pens cloud9.gif , though for the time being it will only be used in the former as it's easier to take apart and clean in the event this combination results in a clog tongue.gif

As for colour fastness, water resistance and different ratios of these 2 inks.... I will do experiments on these later when I can find the time. As it is now I'm busy being a house-husband with 4 school-going kids to take care of apart from the usual household chores since we fired the maid last week tongue.gif

Congratulations on making such a satisfying discovery. I'm glad your mixture is working so well for you.

Hi Sharin, I have just created a 50 ml of this mixture and I must say you are really on to a winner here!! thumbup.gif
Ab fab colour. I shall have to rush off and write a letter to some poor unsuspecting victim on my snail mail list.
Now, who shall it be..................?

Ok.... I've been thinking about this concept off and on all morning, wondering if it would also work for blue or blue black inks.

If PR Sherwood Green + Sheaffer Skrip Green = WOW, then

PR American Blue + Sheaffer Skrip Blue = ?????, and

PR Midnight Blue + Sheaffer Skrip Blue Black = ?????

Anybody tried anything like this?

I love it when you can rescue an ink by mixing it as you have done!!

Now sit down and think hard and come up with a very clever name for you mix, so that when you do the review, you will be FPN-famous!!

Shall I call it "Tree Frog Green" then? thumbup.gif roflmho.gif

How about PR Sheaffer Skripwood Green?

But seriously, I use the Pelikan green, which is relatively fast drying, but not as dark and rich as your 'treefrog' green. but I really prefer the slightly lighter green, so, thanks to you, I now have an option to offer people who ask me, when they see my green ink, "but where do I find a darker green?".

Thank you for sharing your efforts; you have made the fp world a better place.

Looks like a winner. I really like the color! Ordered a Sheaffer Skrip Green and a Red to be mixed with my PR Sherwood Green and PR Black Cherry respectively. I'm very curious!
Pjake
Shahrin, That looks fantastic...but I have a question....did you not get a bottle of that wonderful LE Stipula Green ink with your Boboli? I have written Stipula and searched far and near for that limited edition green....but it just is not happening.

Good job brewmaster...I think you've made a nice ink!

Peter,

Yes, I did receive the Calamo Verde Giardino ink along with the di Boboli, but to be honest, PR's Sherwood Green goes along better with the pen. And best part is this "Tree Frog Green" roflmho.gif is an even better match in my personal opinion - a rich, dark green without the baggage of a super-slow drying time that accompanies the Sherwood Green. The olive Verde Giardino in turn gets paired with my Pelikan M400 White Tortoise.

The so-called LE Verde Giardino ink looks suspiciously similar to the readily-available Verde Muschiato when I saw the latter at PenGallery's store; but since Stipula NEVER puts a name on their ink bottles, just a blob of ink on the label, one can never be sure, right? I can't dip that Calamo ink I saw at PG as the bottle is sealed in shrink-wrap.

So far Tree Frog Green had been very well-behaved - it flows very nicely, in fact I'll say even better than Sherwood Green, has a nice shade to it, dries quick (even faster than Lamy Blue-Black), and starts immediately every time, something I can't say the same about the Sherwood Green which used to reside in the same pen after a few of days of non-usage. But this ink had only been used for less than a week so let time tell on how it will behave in the longer term.

Next week (probably Monday) I will expose this ink to the blazing, hot, humid, tropical weather of Malaysia and also dunk a sample in water to test for its resistance to the elements..... and a review will ensue right after that.

Have fun thumbup.gif

Would you be able to post a side by side scan of the original inks with your new ink (assuming you have any of the originals left)?
blopplop
Hmm... If my monitor is seeing that scan correctly, that color looks almost identical to Levenger's Gemstone Green, which is a beautiful green.
