I was wondering whether anyone had tried refilling mini cartridges with this kind of pipette? Click to view attachment How messy was it?

TIA :-)

Way messy than it needs to be. Quality syringes with metal needles are the way to go.

That pipette will not come clean, will blow all kinds of air, and it will be hard to control the flow into the cart.

BTDT. Very messy. Ink everywhere. However, I tried it with Pelikan/international type cartridges. I actually found they worked quite well with Pilot cartridges and Pilot or Sailor converters because the opening is actually wide enough.

However they continue to have the disadvantage of being difficult to clean - some inks really stain them pretty much indelibly. I do still keep them around though. I suspect I have a higher mess tolerance than a lot of other people here, though. And, I've actually got a pretty good feel for how much ink to suck into the pipette and deliver into a converter. But it is harder to control, for sure.

Thank you, both, for your feedback.

I use pipettes like those to fill tiny perfume sample vials (I swap perfumes with Internet pals) and I'm quite good at aiming correctly, but you are probably right and it would be too messy. It was just an idea I suddenly had since I have several of those pipettes already.

I wonder how much the people producing the Monteverde and the Tryphon converters charge to ship to the UK. Must find out.

I have a Monteverde converter and even if I'm glad I have it and occasionally use it, it's one of those annoying converters in which the ink loves to cling to the sides. I'm not saying "don't get one" or anything, but if you search the forum a bit, it does seem to be a bit problematic (and this has been true in my case). I have marginally more success with refilled cartridges - I've been using the long Waterman cartridges. Just, you know, more options to consider.

Thank you very much for the warning, Limesally. You may have saved me money, time and hassle. I will investigate further. :-)

There is a smaller version of the pipette you pictured that has a much smaller end, perfect for inserting into ink cartridges with very little mess. I have some, in case you'd like to try one out -- however, I wholeheartedly agree with the previous comments: a syringe set-up is by far superior to plastic pipettes of any kind.

Actually, you have reminded me that I do have a tiny pipette (it came with a minute Muji perfume spray) and I could use that.

Thank you so much for the offer! Aren't you all lovely people! ♥
