I recently bought a 146 fountain Pen and really enjoy writing with it and i use it as my everyday pen. However the Nib is M and i have heard that services are provided to decrease the size of the nib. What i'am interested in is whether this is true, the cost, where can these places be found and whether it is a good option????
Thank You for your Help!!

Are you looking to change nib size (to a F or EF) or change the physical size of the nib?

Mont Blanc will exchange the nib for free within 30 days of purchase at an authorized dealer, after that it is $30. Turn around is about 2 weeks.

Changing the physical size can be done as custom work from a nibmeister.

I have a 146 with F nib which i'd like to change to an OM or B. Any good 3rd party service to recommend?

I went to the montblanc repair centre and they quoted me around USD400 for a nib change but i could keep my old nib. They won't allow a nib 'trade-in'.

Which would be seen as the better option for quality, sending to a Nib master or to Mont Blanc??? I bought the pen off ebay and it is authentic but will this have any bearing n where i should send it???
Thanks!! thumbup.gif

I think a good nibmeister is your safest bet. It will probably turn out to be more economical as well. You have to check the turnaaround time though, cause some of the nibmeisters are really busy.
Good luck

If you are in the U.S., Mont Blanc costs $30, exclusive of your shipping and insurance costs. You send the pen, stamped certificate of authenticity and a cover letter to Mont Blanc. They'll send you a quote in about a week. You either mail or fax it back and they start work. Your pen should come back about a week after they get your form.

When I had mine done, there was no option of keeping my old nib. I guess you might be able to for $400 or so, at least in Asia. MB tries to control the flow of nibs not attached to pens, to minimize counterfeiting.

I don't have any data on nib exchanges from a nibmeister. They would probably re-grind your nib to a smaller size for around $30-60 and a longer waiting period. They might be able to swap the nib assembly for a non MB branded one. The advantage of having a nibmeister do a grind is you'll likely get a nicer writing nib at the end of the day. The downside is, your wait will be longer. Last I looked, Richard Binder's wait time was around 19 weeks.

Send it to the U.S. MB service center. They won't let you have your old nib back, but it'll cost you a heck of a lot less.
