I currently have two aero Parker 51's. Both of them have Lustraloy caps that are in good condition, but the finish on both caps are pretty worn. Has anyone here had a 51 cap refinished? Who did the work and were you happy with it?

Thanks,

TMann

Back up to two "51"s, eh Ted? Did you find one with a broad nib? I too have been wondering about Lustraloy cap restoration. I know Richard Binder offers such a service, but I can't tell by the before/after pics on his site whether the matte finish is restored.

Richard does it well. I do it but am not ready to do it for the general public. It involves a little chemistry that my jewelry person showed me.

Good luck,

Hey there, Amin! Yes, I am back up to two "51's". My second one is actually a "51" Special. The Special was a slightly downgraded version of the "51", but it still writes wonderfully! My Special is a medium nib, which I ground down to a stub. Because of the stub shape, it has a slightly broader line than it did originally.

The one problem with sending the pen cap off to Richard B's shop is that there is a fairly significant turnaround time for his work. I guess I could just send my "51's" off to him, one at a time, so I'd always have one inked and ready to go. biggrin.gif
