Greetings All,

I have several Parker 51 Gold Filled caps that have very small dings in them. I want to burnish out the dings and, since there are so many caps, I can't afford to send my pens out to have he job done. I wish I could.

As I understand it, The Parker 51 Gold Filled caps are of different construction than the Lustraloy caps. Is the difference that the GF caps do not have an inner roled under lip?

I have a tool for removing the inner cap, but I do not have or am not aware of a tool to remove the inner clutch. Will someone please be kind enough to explain to me the procedure for removing the inner clutch on Parker 51 Gold Filled caps?

I thank you for your response in advance.

To remove the inner clutch is not an easy process. Daniel Kircheimer is quite the person for doing this. I have done some, but not perfected the work to willingly do it for others.
Daniel does it and has the pictures to prove it. By all accounts,he is really good at it.

There is a lip on the cap that has to be turned down to release the clutch. That lip has to be burnished so as to be able to slide the clutch down and out of the cap. Easier said than done as I have ruined a few caps learning to do it. I have a jewelry person who is really good at working gold and silver and steel and he taught me how to do it.

Good luck,

I have not done this myself, electronic engineering I am OK with, a bit of light to medium engineering on cars and boats OK, but I still don't dare to go too far with a fountain pen.

But I am lucky enough to have a local guy to me in the UK who can work wonders and has a turnaround time I can live with!

The site reference is here PenPractice

He has some information on the tools etc, which might give you a clue.

PS Question for Kevin, I see a console to something interesting in your Avatar, care to share some info? J

Tis a pipe organ. That is what I do for a living, play the organ and teach it.

Thanks for your input, Kevin and Jim. I would love to be able to afford for Daniel Kircheimer to do the work for me, however, I have about 10 caps and that adds up to a lot of money.

Kevin, you stated that there is a lip on the gold filled caps that has to be turned down -- we are speaking about gold filled caps I hope -- and that you had a jeweler help you. Would you be kind enough to share a brief description of the process?

Thanks again.
