Full Version: Trouble with Montblanc Nibs

Hi you all,

I'm wondering if anyone might have some knowledge for me. I bought a montblanc solitaire, 18K nib, fine point. It wrote nicely, with a smooth flow and dark ink, the way I like a pen to write. However I prefer a medium nib, so I sent the pen to Bethlehem PA for nib exchange. The medium nib they put on wrote with very LIGHT ink, and skipped. I sent the pen back to them with a letter explaining that I like a substantial ink flow, but it came back to me in the same condition: very light ink flow that skips. So now I either need to send it back AGAIN for an adjustment, or have them put back on the original fine nib, which one of nice customer-service agents has been holding on to for me at my request. (She said the charge would be $210. for the replacement nib if she returned to me this original nib as a spare.)

This is not the first time that I have noticed that when I change nibs on a montblanc, the replacement nib writes poorly--i.e. with a very light ink flow that skips. Can I increase the ink flow myself?

Any thoughts you have on this I would appreciate. Thanks very much. ~ Lilac

I'd send it back and have the nib adjusted again. For what you paid for the pen, they should make it right.

I agree with Ed44. send the pen to them again until they make it right. I know it is a pain but you want your pen to write the way you like

One more thing that comes to mind. If you live anywhere near a MontBlanc Boutique, just take the pen in (along with proof of purchase) and they will handle the boxing up and shipping to the MB Repair Center in Pennsylvania at no cost to you. That way when it comes back, you can test it right there in the store and make sure it works before you take it home.

Nikolaos, Your agreeing with Ed44 gives me more resolve to send the pen back to MB. I appreciate your taking the time to address my issue. ~ Lilac

A fine idea, Ed44. Thanks for being so thoughtful to send me the new idea that came to your mind. I don't live too far from Manhattan, so one of these days I may step on a train and take the pen to one of the MB boutiques there. It hadn't occurred to me that if I take it in, I could test it there when it came back. That's using your head! ~ Lilac
