What a great place this is! Lots of FP nuts to talk to. LOL!

Back in the 1960s, my father gave me a stunning gold Parker 61 (the one with the funny capillary filling system), which I used all through my school and college years. Then, I foolishly stopped using it and the little arrow fell out and for some reason, over the years, the nib section kind of 'perished' and it is now unusable. I tried to find somewhere to have it repaired but couldn't, and I think it might cost too much anyway, so I put it away. There was a ballpoint pen too, but I never actually used it: I found it too heavy.

These days, I'm into Watermans. I have a lovely Lauréat, which I use all the time. And I'm planning to buy another one or five. :-)

Hi Bela, welcome to FPN, I received a parker 61 from my Grandfather, the one with rainbow cap, very nicce indeed. Is one of my favourite pens. I encourage you to try and fix it, its value increases a lot when you think where it came from. smile.gif

Welcome to FPN, Bela.

Thank you, both, for the warm welcome.

I could never sell my Parker pen so, if I did get it fixed, it would be in order to be able to write with it again, not because its value would increase. I do think it's irretrievably damaged. The only remedy would probably be to find a new nib section for it. You have encouraged me to look for one. :-)

Hello and welcome

Welcome to FPN!

Very welcome to the Forum. Nice story about your 61. We all started in our own peculiar ways, but family had a role to play in many cases... smile.gif

Ah yes, family and pens ....

The beginning for me was a Lady Sheaffer pen from my grandmother. I still have it but the barrel gave up the ghost years ago and unforntunately sellotape won't fix everything but I'm not letting go of it ! glare.gif

The pen addiction is now out of control !!

Anyway welcome to the FPN - great place - great people - what more can you ask for?

Best wishes
Helen

Welcome, the P61 is a much underrated pen, although I think people are picking up on them now. The arrows dropping of is quite common, I try not to let it bother me too much.

The nib section is also prone to cracking and warping and I an not sure if it can actually be repaired without using a unit from another pen damaged in a different place.

Hope you enjoy the forums, there is a huge amount of information if you have the time to look.

Thank you very much. And everyone else who's made me so welcome.

When the arrow fell off, I didn't worry too much. It was still writing fine. But when the plastic (is it plastic?) started cracking and getting distorted, I knew that was it.

Everyday I am discovering more information on this wonderful website. I've only scratched the surface so far. :-)

Welcome Bela. Its always nice to welcome people from the UK to FPN. I too have an arrow-less 61 that I will have to attend to at some point.
