I have come to the conclusion that I am not a great teacher.... at least in the realm of handwriting..
I have a fine hand for a man, but I find trying to get the ideas across to my daughter a bit daunting
I write with my hand directly below the pen, my daughter holds her hand approximately 90 degrees to the paper and pulls the pen along... this is about the best description I can give to how we hold a pen...

Are there any real good training aids for teaching a young one to write properly... She really likes using her FP and tries so hard to impress me with her penmanship... I of course praise her every step, and try to offer encouragement along the way.
But, I really don't trust the school system to teach her penmanship. At least not the way I was taught 50 yrs ago. For us penmanship was something to be proud of... today speed typing on the computer is... I find this a shame and discrace

Any advise or sites that can help would be greatly appreciated..

Hi,

The Getty Dubay Italic (Not the Write Now) series is good. I learned that way. It goes on for several grades. Book A and B are basic italic (Not cursive) and books C to G are basic and cursive. Book G has a section on using a fountain pen with an italic nib.
