I've lurked on this 'site for a couple weeks...finally made the leap to register. Very informative and good gen. discussions.

I've been using fountain pens for several years: primary Pelikans (250s/400s), Montblanc, Parker, and a couple older pens (Shaeffers and Conway Stewart). Just ordered a modern CS Dinkie today (seemed like a neat little pocket pen...we'll see). Otherwise, my other daily writers (when I'm travelling and don't want to be concerned about a brief or shirt pocket full of ink) are a few fairly 'neat' Duofold rollerballs (yeah, I realize, heresy to mention non-FPs here).

Looking forward to joining some discussions and learning much more.

Best regards,

Paul

Actually, rollerballs are OK because they use water-based inks...so the pens are a sort of first cousin to fountain pens laugh.gif I like using Parker gel refills in my ballpoint pens because the inks are really nice (when they don't skip <_< ).

Anyway.....
Welcome to FPN, Paul! biggrin.gif

Nice to have you on board...and please don't think we are fountain pen snobs. I was just kidding about the rollerballs. wink.gif

Welcome to FPN Paul! Glad you snooped around and decided to join us anyhow laugh.gif laugh.gif ! I'm sure you'll enjoy the place.

[Proselytizing on] Regarding your heresy, let me encourage you to repent wink.gif - many FPs can safely be carried in your pocket without worrying about them opening up accidentally and staining your clothes. And, even if it happens, unless your pen is inked with a permanent ink, there are good cleaners easily available that will take them right out. Why deprive yourse'f of the pleasure of an FP everywhere you go? [Proselytizing off]

Any other interesting pens you have? There are quite a few CS fans here - be sure to let us know how your Dinkie is. How 'bout some pics of your pens if you get a chance.

Looking forward to getting to know you better on the boards. (Just picking with you about the RB/FP thing - use 'em myself when I have to, but I am trying to ensure FP access all the time smile.gif ).

See ya around!

Thanks....my only issue with fountain pens has been the horror stories I've heard regarding flying (pressure in a partially filled pen) and not wanting to tote a bottle of ink in either my suitcase or briefcase.

Otherwise, I find that there's something very relaxing to using a fountain pen. My best to all and a joyous holiday to all that celebrate Thursday.

Sincerely,

Paul

Well, that's what cartridges are for... <ducking> laugh.gif

Agree. However, my absolute favorite writers are Pelikans: bottle 'drinkers'. I have two Parker Sonnets (one was given as a gift after I purchased the first). Find them a bit too stiff for my liking but, you're right, they could fill the bill. Being a cheapskate, I would have a bit of an issue emptying my pens daily of a fairly full cartridge so that I could climb on a plane.

I did purchase the CS Dinkie (awaiting its arrival) that uses standard international cartridges -- of course, I had to spring for the Private Reserve cartridges (instead of some cheapies I could find in any office supply store).

Sam, Pendemonium, mentioned that he's never heard of problems when flying with Pelikans but haven't tried it. Guess I could post in another forum to check on other folk's success in this lil' experiment.

Cheers!

Paul

"Sam" from Pendemonium is a lady....a very nice lady, actually. biggrin.gif

Edit: just noticed that two other people pointed this out in another thread---sorry, Paul!! blush.gif

No problem  ....in fact, I received a package of ink from HER yesterday...where I apologized for assuming she was a he. You're right...my communications with her have been just great.

Thanks smile.gif When I saw that others posted the same thing in another thread, I thought "Oh, oh! Paul is going to think we jump on FPN newcomers like this all the time...." laugh.gif so I quickly edited it. blush.gif

Pendemonium is great, aren't they? smile.gif

Never read anything into folks informing me of her gender. As I mentioned, I 'lurked' first...noticed that posters are very civil on here. Very impressed with level of knowledge and passion too.

Apparently you're an insominiac too.... biggrin.gif

My best,

Paul
